Has just died. Missed out the first name.Spelling is not my strong point. However I know his work from the Yellow Magic Orchestra, working with Bowie,Eno, and David Sylvian.Perhaps his best known work is the music for Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence.Which I'm about to find.

Ryuichi Sakamoto, only 71, very cool composer. I remember him from the same sources you name above plus his score for "The Last Emperor".
He previously had throat cancer and a year ago said he had been diagnosed with rectal cancer.

Spot on, a revolutionary in his time, he sponsored Isao Tomita and Stomu Yamashda to so some great music.

Seen Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence at the cinema when it came out.
Loved the music. Good film as well.

RIP Sakamoto.
I enjoyed the film too but it must be about 30 years since I last watched it.

TBH I remember more about the soundtrack than the film itself.
