Agree with you both. The striker we sign this summer has to be an upgrade on Vente, there’s no point someone someone similar or to be a back up to him. Worst case the new striker causes Vente to up his game.

I also think we need a more physical, target man type to complement the squad. There’s no one that can really hold the ball up and there’s a lack of height in the team.

I agree. Vente’s best spell with us was with doidge up next to him, I definitely think he needs someone there with him to get the best out of him

I certainly agree with that bold bit. As to Vente upping his game though - I think he is being judged unfairly. We know he can finish given the opportunity and perhaps the problem was that players around him weren't making chances for him to the extent that he was having to go into midfield just to try to get involved in the game.

He is a box goalscorer, but natural I'm not sure.

Montgomery did drop him deep, but from what I've seen of Vente alot of that coming deep and chasing the ball is his natural game.

What’s “proven” though? One very good season at the age of 32, in an otherwise journeyman career? I’m not so sure. I’d have signed Simon Murray if he was a free agent, think that would have been a shrewd deal, but to pay a fee and hand out the decent contract that goes with it… not so sure.

I don’t think he’s exactly what we need to be honest, we desperately need a target man more than anything else up front.
