Is it just me or is this remarkable?
After his previous electoral victory in first round presidential elections was cancelled, Calin Georgescu is now banned from even standing in May elections. Romanian courts are the adjudicators here but the hand of the EU is not far away, with EU official Thierry Breton coming close to admitting it was the EU wot done it, and they will do the same in Germany if required.
The pretext for these events is a claim - according to some, poorly evidenced - of 800 Russian tiktok accounts supporting him.
Ok so we don't like Russia, but nevertheless I'm not sure i buy that it legitimises throwing democracy out. The Russians promote BLM and lgtbqwerty radicalism and they promote opposition to them. They promote left here and right there. Their aim is to sow chaos. But if we bin off democracy in response...isn't that playing into their hands?
The Yanks are going to have a field day with this, even as they dismantle USAID in part because of much more material meddling in other countries.
Is the EU and / or european states right to behave like this or are they just vindicating charges of anti democracy and neo liberal Imperialism, levelled at them?
IMO politics that have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and are pushing countries towards Russia, is a worthier area for them to focus on, rather than attempting to smother responses. Not least as being vassals of global capitalism seems to be a plan somewhat outmoded by events.
