Admits he's a cheat.

At long last.

Admits he dived yesterday , but not to 'win' the penalty.

Big of you , Mr R.

You cheating bastard.

I like Robben. He went down three times yesterday in the box, twice he should have had a penalty ( including the one he was given) So he's being hacked by defenders and not getting the foul.I'd be inclined to exaggerate too.

Football players cheat. Until the worlds governing bodies get together and enforce severe punishments for it, it will continue. It isn`t helped by the "he was entitled to go down" line....although in the case of our commentary teams and pundits, that usually only applies to English players. They are all cheats and the sanctimonious outrage from the footballing world is as hypocritical as it gets.

He didn't use the word exaggerate. He said he dived.

His reputation for diving means referees have become wary of giving penalties. Which appears to make him flop even more dramatically. Time to start using the cameras to sort it out.

I disagree about the cameras Burbs, where does it stop?

Retrospectively yes, for blatant cheating, but we will have an American Football type scenario before we know it unlesws were careful..

Goal Line technology yes, otherwise it should be up to the refand his/her assistants to curb any cheating.

Heafty fines and suspensions for diving would help.

We should be stoping the game as little as possible.

He should automatically miss the next game. That would make these cheats think twice about taking a dive.

I can see why folk think this, but I'd rather watch Robben in the quarter finals than have him banned, he's excellent.

I would too, but the diving has to stop. I'd introduce banning players for the next game during the qualifiers, really stamp down on any dive.
Hopefully when the WC started the players will have got the message.

Cairney got a second yellow and sent off For "diving" against RC when he never dived.... How does that get dealt with? The game could be lost because of that decision so anything after is to late.....

I suppose you could change the rules and not book anyone for diving. Anyone caught gets automatically suspended for the next game. The more they do it, the heavier the suspension. Eventually players and managers will get the message. It's part of the game I despise, its just plain cheating and needs to be stamped out. Players dragging there legs over the defender/goalkeeper to win a penalty is a disgrace. You watch the same players in the middle of the park riding challenges and getting stuck in, the minute they are in the box they are looking to go down.

It stops when the divers get the message to mend their cheating ways.

In (American) Football each team is allowed to challenge a call three times at the risk of losing a time out. It makes the the coaches think before challenging. All scores are reviewed anyway so the stoppages are not that much. Too many games are being decided by the referees getting things wrong.

You don't get a foul unless you hit the deck.

The dramatic swan dives and rolling around as if you're burst is disgraceful though.

Hate divers tbh. The only way to fix it is to make it a binary decision when someone goes down in the box looking for a pen. Either it IS a pen and the defender gets booked or sent off OR if the penalty isn't rewarded then the attacker MUST be booked for simulation/ unsportsmanly behaviour.

Of course if there's no appeals to the ref either way then it's back up to the ref to make a decision.

Don't think there is a player I dislike more than Robben.

The most annoying thing is the fact he doesn't need to dive, he has all the skill to rip past 3 or 4 players but chooses to fling himself to the floor in the most embarrassing of ways.

If I was a left back I'd be tempted just to put two feet right through the cant in the first minute to avoid 90 minutes of his antics.

A great powerful runner its neither wonder he gets brought down so often, its the only way to stop him. I suppose being him and being hacked down so often, with defenders likely getting away with blatant 'fouls' more often than he 'cheats', he gets a bit pissed off.

The only thing I'd say about reviewing dives after the match is maybe the hackers should be held to account too. The danger then is where does it stop and would we, in Scotland, see more occasions where the OF were seen as being treated even more differently than they are now.

Watching Messi running at speed shows me there's no need to go down, or drag you feet over the defender. His solo goal where he literally floated over the defenders legs, and today when stayed on his feet when the defender tried to take him down before he slipped in DiMaria.

That couldn't work.
You can go down after a good tackle and most folk will have been tackled at some point in their life that was perfectly fair but you believed you were fouled.
Forcing someone to be booked either way would create more wrong decisions than there are now.

In ice hockey, if there is an infringement but the player who was fouled embellishes, they both get a 2 minute penalty.

In football if there is a foul and the attacker embellishes, the free kick should still be awarded to the attacking team but the attacking player should be booked.

Just a thought.

Lionel Messi gets fouled more than most players but I cant remember seeing him dive and roll about like Robben, Ronaldo etc. He is a great role model for football. He doesn't bitch and whine like most players either. I hate modern day football and all the shite that goes with it.

If video evidence clearly showed that a player had dived to gain an advantage in a game,...particularly a penalty..the player should then be banned for a match. It would stop diving immediately IMO.

This cant is fucken unbelievable, his dives are so blatant. Stamp this $hit out of football, it's embarrassing.

According to the co-commentator last night [Mark Lawrenson?] it was nice to see that Robben had cut out all that diving. I'll have some of what you've been smoking please :smoke:

I don't think Lawrenson is on the gear Dub.

The way he speaks it's more likely to be fucking helium....
