Hearing Eusabio has passed away
RIP Legend

One of the greatest footballers of all time...a sad day for the game

I visited the beautiful city of Lisbon in 2012 and made a point of doing the stadium tour of Benfica's magnificent stadium, the Stadium of Light. The guy doing the tour showed us the seat in the Directors area that was exclusively for Eusabio...nobody else was allowed to sit in it ever. He was treated like a God at that club, and there is a superb statue of him outside the stadium. I'm not old enough to have seen him play, but going by the stats and what many of the older greats of the game say about him, he must have been some player.

RIP Eusabio

Did the same in 2010, GM.

RIP a football great.

Only seen videos of him, obviously a very, very good footballer

RIP

Obviously not the same as having the privilege of seeing him in full flight but I did have the privilege of meeting him, along with Pele, in Lisbon in the early 2000s. We were on holiday in the Algarve and found out Portugal were playing Brazil at the Sporting Lisbon and so booked a car, a hotel in Lisbon and drove up there to take in the game. With Ronaldinho, Figo and a host of other world superstars on view for a mere 15 Euros entry ticket, it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Where we were in the ground, the two special match guests were just across the way - Pele and Eusebio. It was somewhat surreal all round.

Watched the Sky sports 'greatest' about him last night, some of the goals he scored were quite incredible, and his record of 730 in 740 is just remarkable. They showed the highlights of a game between Benfica and Santos from the early 60's when Eusebio was breaking thru, he came on at half time and scored an insanely good hattrick.

another example of how approachable he was when he did Phoenix from the flames with Baddiel and Skinner recreating his goals against North Korea in 66...cannae imagine too many of todays megaplayers doing that.

I think as time goes on and new stars come thru we tend to forget how special people like Eusebio,Pele etc were...when I was a kid, it was taken for granted Pele was the greatest ever footballer, but on some polls nowadays he doesn't make the top 3...same goes for Eusebio.

an all time great and by all accounts a gentleman, a few of my work colleagues met him as he was a supporter of the homeless world cup.
