Statement from Hamilton regarding their manager and his betting on football.

despite this being an absolute no no, the sfa continues to take sponsorship from a number of bookies.

Hypocrisy?

The statement from Hamilton and Brian Rice is excellent in my opinion.

I hope the clubs words are backed by their actions.

As Chester Perry says gambling is seen as an acceptable addiction. Speaking from experience, as someone who has watched a family member suffer as a gambling addict, it causes just as much destruction to people as any other addiction.

I wish Brian Rice all the best and hope the way he has spoken out can help others with the same addiction acknowledge and recover from it.

Fair play to Brian Rice for notifying the SFA himself. Good statement from him and the club.

Will the SFA do anything to help him (and others) or simply punish him? I suspect the later given the sponsorship of every major competition in our game is by a bookmaker. 3 of the 12 Premiership clubs are also sponsored by bookmakers, included our two biggest clubs.

pedantically he didn’t notify the sfa in the first instance, but it would seem he has attempted to mitigate his sentence with early co operation

Must’ve taken a lot for him to write to the SFA himself and admit that his addiction had lapsed. Hopefully he is given the hell he needs. Football really does need to have a look at themselves and the image they are creating having absolutely everything sponsored by bookies. Look at here, the 2 main cups, the league, and the 2 most televised teams shirt sponsors as well.

Listened to I think it was the chairman of Accies on R2.
He was very matter of fact but very supportive of Brian you can't ask for anymore.
It is a terrible addiction for a manager to have if it spirals out of control as it often does you can't focus 100%on the day to day running of the team when your mind elsewhere. Everyone at that club should be concerned.
Hope he does get the backing and support he needs.

he’s been charged for every season since he returned from the Middle East five years ago when he asked for help to pay off his gambling debts. I’m struggling with this ‘illness has returned’ line, and the notion that he self referred his case to the sfa.

It's possible he just got his admission in before he was pulled up.

There are so many things you can gamble upon.He didn't have to place bets on football

I think he did - the vast majority of his bets were on football but there were bets on horse racing too. I suppose that is the big issue for him going forward, he'll lose his job if he gambles again on football. Other sports, well, that's a different price.

From the BBC gossip bit.

The Scottish FA has secretly banned players caught breaking gambling rules, with an international given an eight-match ban, suspended for six matches, in the past year without fans knowing about it. (Sunday Mail)

There was some chatter that a player under investigation for gambling was used to promote the ladbrokes deal.

Dougie Imrie of Hamilton has been arrested and questioned in relation to match fixing, and it alleged 8 players and staff members placed bets on the fixed events.

Clubs get monthly reminders about the limitations on gambling, but I think this is likely to have been a bookmaker reporting suspicious activity (as per the terms of their licence) such as Dougie Imrie getting booked after large bets had been placed on that outcome in the Hamilton area.

There was a large amount of bets put on Ogboe of Hamilton getting booked on Sunday - which he duly did.

It’s been reported to the SFA and the police.

There seems to be a real problem at Hamilton and it’s not going away.

He fairly clattered the boy for the foul as well.
Sure fire way of earning a yellow card.
