Said to be looking at ways to help those with oil-fired heating to pay their bills . . . er haven’t we been here before Rachel?
The UK has ample crude oil reserves - good - er . . . we’re lacking in refinery capacity - oh wait, Grangemouth?
The UK has ample refined fuel stocks bought in at considerably lower prices than today’s yet the price we pay at the pump shoots up by the day.
The oil companies are rubbing their hands at $100+ per bbl? No, many of them have already forward sold much of their annual production at far lower prices to ensure cash flow.
Who’s taking the piss? Middle men, traders, brokers, Champagne Charlies with offshore bank accounts. Sort that one out Rachel um err um.

Hi @blue toon hibby . You worked in the oil industry for decades mate. Firstly regarding the case of Grangemouth. My position was that the importance of it as an economic entity in Scotland, that it should have been Nationalised by the UK or Scottish governments, without any compensation to uber tax avoider Jim Ratcliffe of INIOS nor PetroChina.

If Middle men, traders, brokers, Champagne Charlies with offshore bank accounts are making a killing M, yet Shell and Equinor only one of others, have generated huge profits in the North Sea, with Q1 2023 seeing pre-tax profits of £11.57bn and £11.05bn respectively and Shell paying zero tax on North Sea drilling, receiving £12.4m in tax relief. Would it not have made sense as Norway did to have a Nationalise oil industry. Though that Nationalisation consists of 70% of production, the other 30% operated by private companies, their contacts ensure that the majority of profit still goes to the Norwegian economy.
I remember in the Falkirk Tech.Grangemouth Road, where I studied in the 70's, our tutor in Chemical Engineering, Dr Happer telling us, when it was the B.P. that it was absolute lunacy that the Norwegian model was not mirrored in the UK.

Totally agree G. You’ll remember the old SNP mantra “It’s Scotland’s Oil.” Sadly, the stable doors were left open and the horses had not only bolted but had died of old age by the time we realised. I spent 10 years working in Norway and the industry was unionised, organised and professionally run. The workers’ schedules promoted a healthy work/life balance and it was a happy place to work. A lot of Brits went over there to work and called the Norwegians “pussies” and the like at first but soon realised they had the game sussed. The field I worked on initially was expected to last 10 years - 33 years on it’s still expanding. Scotland had the catchy slogan but Norway had the brains.

Missed opportunities indeed mate. As to Grangemouth, I'm still in contact with some B.P. classmates 50+ years on. Though all retired now their comments regarding Ratcliffe and the UK and Scottish governments response made me blush!!

Retired on BP pensions? Fair play to them.

was working up in Caithness last week, although no longer producing you can see oil rigs as you drive up the A9, and yet petrol more expensive there than anywhere on the UK I think. Seeing the vast wind farms surrounding the rigs is quite strange. I think I’d open up more licences if it was a nationalised thing, I’m less keen if lining pockets of BP, Exxon and whoever else gets huge tax incentives.

How is it that as soon as the shit in the Middle East starts.....prices at the pumps rocket.

When the price of a barrel goes down, the excuse is....we buy in bulk and using our current supply so dont have the benefit of the decrease yet.

Its a scam

That is actually a really valid and real point.

Missed opportunities, mainly down to the fact that the then labour government sealed the report on how an independent Scotland would be rich almost beyond her wildest dreams and Westminster wanted the revenue. As far as I recall they then sold off licences to their pals in BP, Shell etc and even gave them tax breaks to make drilling even more lucrative.

I recall at the time oil was discovered and I was going for an interview with the civil service - one of the questions the 3 person panel asked me was "How should the anticipated oil revenue be spent" to which I responded "it's Scotland's oil, all the money should be spent here". Abrupt end of interview and no job offer.

A family member who was an SNP party member went for a UKCS job. They were ‘advised’ to cease their party membership before applying

The UK did have its own “state oil company” in BNOC, which was then hived off to Britoil who (iirc) were taken over by BP. BNOC at the time owned decent percentages of a lot of good producing fields but, as is the case with most things “the state” runs, well need I say more?

Was it not published the day AFTER the Independence vote that Scotland had more oil than Kuwait?

I remember that being widely spoken.

One reason is because we don’t consume what we produce because we don’t have refining capacity, so we export our crude and import the refined products, paying all sorts of costs in doing so. Also much of our production is forward sold, often a year’s worth at a time, at lower prices so it could be a year before our producers see the gains from the likes of this war.

The McCrone report was completed in 1974 mate and it showed an embarrassment of riches for an indy Scotland so it was locked away until 2005.

An indy Scotland would have had the hardest currency in Europe and immense wealth but England couldn't have that, they wanted the money for themselves.

Maybe, but it wasn't true. You probably fell for it though.

Now, we all know the earth is flat, but how deep would it have to be to hold all that oil?

Why doesn't it drip out the bottom?
I was just thinking the other day.

When in Cyprus I could go up a hill maybe 1000 feet..and see Beirut.

How is that possible when its 15000 feet below at sea level(based on YOUR definition of the earth)?

Not done the calculation to a tee on that one...but you can definately see it.

I saw it when I was maybe 15.

Figure that one out...when you dont know the curvature of the earth.

Beirut is about 150 miles from Cyprus.

Whos the dumbass here?

Cant wait on your explanation to how thats possible though..😎

Ive done my research...You have not!

Dont fuck with facts you dont know shit about!

At minimum....what your told exactly.

Its Bullshit!

There is your reference based on your psydo Science(because thats the supposed facts)

Your a useful idiot that defends not what you know...but what your told. 🤡

Thank you.
I'm usually seen as a useless idiot so I'll accept that.

If I was in The Hague and climbed a hill, could I see Colchester? That the same distance as Cyprus tae Beirut.

Have you ever been on a Himalayan peak marvelling at the curvature?

Prolly not

I've just given some an opportunity here eh?

Based on the curvature that your demanded.

Your brain is very vulnerable as a child....so its hard to even consider it!

Prove its a spherical object, spinning through the universe...but water remains flat.

Every surface of water needs a container.

Antarctica...is the bowl!

Cant go there....as not allowed to circum navigate it.

Captain Cook did though.

Took him nearly 3 years.

What is it with Antarctic...your not allowed to ask.

Admiral Byrd even wrote alot about It...and beyond what you know.

If its proven fact that in an plane...your not High enough.

I assume your from fake space.

Theres video from Weather Balloons at 60,000 feet...with no curvature.

Defend..what you know nothing about..🤡

Where is the edge of the world then?
Is it a square flat shape? Disc like? Triangle?

I'm off to Prague in a few hours.... please tell me the edge isn't there?

That shows complete ignorance right there?

When did I say there was an edge?

I have never suggested you will fall off.
Read a bible...and it tells you what is above you.

Your ancestors weren't fish that fucked monkeys, that fucked whatever bullshit they told you.

When something is created....Their is a creator!

Satanists seem tobe everywhere corrupting the world through history.

Once you realise its a spiritual battle, and Globe earth is to make you feel irrelevant.

Prove the world is round....cause you cant.

When you look at evidence..its obviously NOT round.

It defies Physics.

I've had quite a lot of whisky, admittedly, but "fish that fucked monkeys" has given me a chronic fit of the giggles

How do you know Beruit is 150 miles.from Cyprus? Have you measured it, or are you taking that calculation from a book.
And if in fact the earth is flat, what countries are probably on the edge?
I'm open minded and always keen to expand my knowledge.

There’s a hill there. Could you please be the Bounce intrepid investigator, walk up said hill and post your results?

Czech before you fly Doc. I’ve not heard of any Czechoslovakians lately. Mibbes fallen off the edge, or mibbes been kidnapped, turned intae penguins and sent tae Antartica.

Funny, I just watched one of these weather balloon videos and clearly saw the curvature. One of us needs to go to Specsavers.
As for “water is flat” and “Antarctica is the bowl” how do you explain coastal erosion? Is the bowl leaking? What happens when the moon goes down - do the tides stop moving? How thick is this flat earth? We gave up drilling one well at 20,003 ft TVD SS because the combination of granite and temperature was wrecking all the downhole tools.
