2 weeks on friday, anyone going?

I just bought me and my mates tickets the day and was surprised that so few tickets have been sold so far. Seems only the lower section of the 3 stands have been opened.

Quite fancy it but didn't know when it was, or if the tickets were on sale.

knew nothing about it...who are they playing

edit

your going to say Scotland now aren't you :lookaround:

Fuck going to any game that Qatar are involved in.

Current predictions of deaths per stadium they're building : 62

Christ only knows what the SFA are thinking about...actually, hold on, I know exactly what they're thinking.

Correct. Disgusted we're even entertaining this crowd, especially at ER.

I am going with my sons, having been in Qatar a few times, I would like to see Scotland batter them.

Because of the way the world rankings work and Qatars lowly position it is almost inevitable even if we win that Scotland will drop down the rankings.

We are on the edge of pot 3 for the WC qualifiers as it stands now this match will drop us in to pot 4 in time for the cut off date.

Or so I heard on the wireless recently.

Has anyone got a link to where I can buy tickets please?

J, you in town the now mate? My pay pal is fucked!

I'd rather we had Peter Sutcliffe do the Happy Hibee draw than have this gang of murderous ****s set foot in ER. Not surprised at the SFA but appalled Hibs have sanctioned it tbh

dire decision by the SFA but then this is the same organisation who happily agreed to play a friendly in the Pinochet stadium in Santiago in 1977 to the eternal shame of Ernie Walker etc

The Qatari players?

I'm quite ambivalent about the match at ER but somethings nagging me a bit.

I can't remember any fuss when Qatar started sponsoring the illustrious paragon of virtue football institution that is Barcelona FC.

I couldn't care less about what barca do or don't do mate. I'm disappointed that hibs and Scotland think it's acceptable to host Qatar at ER.

One of my mates worked in the region [not Qatar specifically but in that neck of the woods] and he told me that he witnessed a migrant worker falling from a tower and dying. When he asked why the guy wasnt wearing safety gear which would have saved his life the supervisor told him that the gear was expensive and there were millions of these workers.

I wonder how many of the people who comment on Qatar (which is a dusty shitehole I may add, I have worked there), go to Dubai on holidays, fly Emirates or suchlike?

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. The sheer scale of deaths in Qatar is unparalleled, not just in the Middle East, but in places like China where the expectation is they're the baddest bastards about

I think it is, all these countries have dreadful, if often well hidden death rates on sites. I am also not convinced the death rates reported are correct either? I am not defending Qatar by the way, I am saying that to pick on Qatar as the only one is plain daft, health and safety (real Health and safety, not the one the Daily Mail quotes) is horrific in many countries, I have seen what happens when its ignored, its not nice.

I suppose the reason Qatar are being 'picked on' is because they're using this slave labour to build arenas for the WC. No question that other countries have appalling H&S, but Qatar seem to be stretching things way past anything seen or reported before.

I agree that I'm not convinced by the death rates either...they'll be higher, just like they're under reported in other despot regimes like UAE and China.

The only reason we're hearing about it anyway is because England is pissed off because they weren't awarded the WC. Otherwise nobody would know or give a fuck.

Not so, given the reporting of it started well before the award of The WC...and England went for 2018, given to Russia instead, not 2022.

I'll bow to your knowledge on that then. I certainly didn't hear anything about it on mainstream media until after England got scuppered.

Fair enough, but the guardian, times, telegraph and panorama have covered the story pretty well prior to the vote.

As far as i`m aware, the figures come directly from the Qatari government. I`m sure this was said on the radio.

Paid up man, not sure if pms are working like.

Were the deaths caused when building stadia or was it a stat on deaths in the construction and infrastructure industries there?

Sorry i cant remember. There was a discussion about it on the radio last week and i just recall them saying that the figures were the Qatari governments own. I was driving at the time so not fully concentrating on what was being said.

I had a wee look online and it appears the figures are the total migrant worker death toll...and NOT just related to the construction of World Cup stadia.

I thought that. As I said earlier, I am not defending Qatar, other than my meetings with my Hibby pal Brian over there, I didnae like the place.

OK then, say one of the Qatari dignitaries attending was to like what he sees at Easter Road and made a bid for the club with the promise of stupid money being invested, would that go down well with any of you?
I'd fuppin love it I reckon.

No danger. I'd never go back to ER again.

The way that Qatar is operating in plain sight and apparently not deterred by criticism, plus the farrago with FIFA itself is all rather sickening.

Looking at how Blatter operates, FIFA is, as I've said before, like a sports version of the UN, where all kinds of corrupt bams get an equal voice. It's only ironic to listen to Raygun trying to take the high ground as Scottish football is surely up there with the best/worst of them.

As an aside, word has it that Mike McCurry is one of the speakers at a big orange bash in Glasgow at the weekend. One of our former top referees also given to singing Rangers songs and presiding benignly over their fixtures.
