Sorry to see this news.Sanders was a contemporary of John Coltrane,Don Cherry,Albert Ayler,Jack de Johnette and more.A tenor saxophonist of the top order he played with the best.Noted for his 'sheets of music' style he would improvise on a melody, then improvise on that and so on ,might not mean much to the lay Bouncer but to Jazzers like myself and Big G it will mean loads.Anyway RIP.

I’ve never heard of the guy, but going on previous spelling, I reckon Moaty is correct with Pharoah and Ferrell is an auto correct because you’re a fan of Anchor Man.

“I wanna say something. I’m gonna put this out there: if you like it, you can take it. If you don’t, send it right back … I want to be ON you.” – Ron Burgundy

He was born Farrell Sanders and messed with his forename to get the cooler sounding Pharoah

Sad. That last album Floating Points was one of the best releases of the year
I wasn't sure if this was a typo or a misconception, so if I'm well-actuallying you I can only apologise

Promises is the record; Floating Points is another musician, who wrote/arranged the non-sax parts of the record, and is also absolutely fuckin brilliant in his own right and imo will be remembered among the august company Sanders belongs to in another 50 years' time

Not that I'm trying to turn an RIP thread into a recommendations thread but, well, seems like I've done it anyway

Before that album came out I must admit I hadn't heard of Sam Shepherd. A great last hurrah for Sanders at 80 before the final curtain.
