On the back of my thread on here a while back re primary school kids, p3 and up iirc, basically left by the school to fend for themselves if parents or whoever is to pick them up are late or whatever reason for not being there at the bell...I'm on my phone and can't find the thread...
A friend of my missus stays across the road from said school I was talking about in that thread, had witnessed a man watching kids in the playground a few weeks back, she phoned the police as he was looking very suspicious, police arrived but the man had gone...
Same man was seen by same woman today , so she went out as he walked away to see where he had gone, now he was sitting in a field watching the kids play, that play area is for upto p3's, my daughter was there....
She phoned the police, they came and he got up and started to walk away while dropping something, police caught him, had a word with him and picked up whatever he dropped then proceeded to handcuff him and take him away..
It is all I know but fuck man that scares the shit out of me man, and to think kids at that school are left on their own to fend for themselves after school if parents are late....
God forbid anything to happen.
As said though I don't know anything apart from what I have wrote and I am just putting it out there, you can never let your guard down folks.....

How can it be lawful to leave a kid of that age with no guardian? Because that is what they are doing. So the teacher, or someone, doesn't have to stay late? We all have to stay late unexpectedly at work sometimes - they should be sucking it up.

Hopefully somebody, somewhere is kicking up fuck because of it.

Aye, i put a thread up about it at the time, but cant find it....
Its basically along the lines that once the child is out of the classroom then they are basically on their own!!
Today shows how dangerous it could turn out.
There will be situations where a parent will be late, phone dead/no signal so cant get in touch with the school and the child will be left to make his/her own way home as the school will not know and the child will already be outside and left to his/her own devices with the teachers unaware of the childs whereabouts...

Found the thread and this is the crux of it...

I quote

"Now that children are in primary 3, they are permitted to walk home alone. It should be noted that the office do not look after children older than p1 and p2 who have not been collected unless contact has been made.
We therefore ask you that if you have arranged to pick your child up can you arrange a place to pick them up if you are running late. This could be the garden at the front of the school or if the weather is bad, the shelter at the P3 exit."

IF you have arranged to pick up your child
So, if you are running late and cannot get in touch with anyone, your 6 year old is left to her own devices...
Arrange a place....ie the school will basically let them go wherever they want, without knowing of their safety..
But the fact that the teacher told my daughter she could walk home on her own is the worst, no way can she walk home on her own, she is 6 year old....

The fact that this guy today could have been waiting for this opportunity after school just to see if any 7 year old or above is waiting on their own scares the shit out of me...

What if said teacher has to leave to go collect their own kids?

There's not many schools that only have one teacher. It's a collective responsibility that the Teachers at the school should assume when they take the job in my opinion.

As Hattie says above, kids at 6 year old can be abandoned and left to fend for themselves? That's incredible. My son is 5 and I couldn't imagine him walking home by himself and he's not much younger.

By way of an example. Our school has an after school club. My son goes 4 days a week. There is a window to pick him up within. However, it is stipulated within the terms that late pick up, if it happens, comes with a charge. That is absolutely fair enough in my book. There are 5 or 6 adults that take the after school club and there would always be one of them, at least, who could hang on for a bit if a parent is late.

It's about common decency and responsibility for me.
