Patrick Moore

RIP Patrick Moore....a very clever and interesting guy who contributed so much to our understanding of space and the wonders of the universe.

Loved old Patrick Moore on the telly taking us to infinity and beyond. The only person to interview the first man to fly an aeroplane and the first man on the moon. RIP

and he met the first man to fly in space (Gagarin) !

89 is no` a bad run, I`d take that, but I`ll miss the auld codger.

Brought the Universe into as much perspective as we`ll ever understand.

I thank him for that. Games-master was good too.

R.I.P. Sir Pat. Now you have all your answers I`m sure. We need to wait a bit yet.

89 is an excellent innings for a man of his frame. This and the Brasilian architect who went during the week at 104, and who was shown in footage of his younger days, puffing away merrily, are two fingers up the muesli nazis.

Well done fellas, and thanks for all the interesting programmes Patrick.

RIP

"Two fingers up to" the muesli nazis Shirley.

Or did you have something else in mind?

Patrick Moore and Attenborough are up there as people who have truly educated a mass population. No idea whether he was a decent guy in private but he seemed like a decent old sort in public, not taking himself too seriously one moment and the next debating astrophysics with very serious scientists.

I've read quite a few of his books over the years including his autobiography which was a page turner and an eye opener. To say the least. He was to the right of Mussolini with more than a touch of the Alf Garnetts when it came to the sons and daughters of the Empire. Yet there was something very endearing about him. The only love interest in his life died in WW2 and he was devastated and never went out with another woman. Doted on his mother instead.

Like with so many other folk his passion and knowledge for his subject got me into astronomy and the stars and for that he'll always be a special person to me.

He didnt have much time for religion and gods but thought the idea of dying was an adventure into the unknown, a bit like travelling to the stars.

Aye he was a unique old cove, blunt and eccentric to the end, who didnt give a monkey what anyone said about him. Top bloke.

One of lifes rare characters who truly didn't give a flying fcuk of what people thought of him and what he believed in.

The alternative Patrick Moore
