Yes, I get the irony given my USA thread.

But I've booked a fortnight one-off holiday for me and the wee gadge funded by a PPI windfall.

And I'd appreciate some advice. My thinking is to not even bother with Disney but do Discovery Cove and Universal? That sound decent?

What's the craic with tipping? Cheapo hotel we're in but I want to be decent? Craic with phones? Are we better buying sims each over there? I've no desire to speak to anyone back here during the fortnight and I'll give him dollars to phone his mum.

Any other advice more than welcome. This is a one-off for me and I want to make the most of it.

Cheers y'all!

Age is the lad mate? Universal is amazing but if your in Florida you surely have to do Disney? It's part of the magic!

Also get yourself to Gatorland, great wee day out there. Best water park if your into it is Typhoon Lagoon.

As for tipping, it's usually about 10% of your bill, i give them extra if i can, pretty much their wages over there.

Buying a couple of $15 dollar phones each over there sounds like a plan mate, i came back with a 275 bill last time. If you want to know any questions mate, pm me, i've spent loads of time over there and driven over 4000 miles, love the place.

If you tell me your likes, i can factor in things to do.

Nice one. We'll do it public because it might help others.

Little man's 13. I'm 39. His mum's a midget though, he'll never be as big as me. And I'm harder. I digress :-)

Yeah, I'm going to have to do a day at Disney minimum, amn't I? Should see it really? Can you get just day tickets? Where's the best place to get tickets per se? Holiday's booked but I'm still trying to suss the best deal re. tickets. Discovery Cove's a defo and I think Universal is too?

You've sold me. I'm doing Gatorland. Airboats?

Driving? Essential? I was brought up in a village with three streets and driving in Edinburgh even scares me. I'm staying in International Drive and am led to believe that I-buses or something will take me everywhere? I'm open to suggestions.

Cheers wan kenobi.

Universal is fantastic, the best theme park there imo.

But I agree with OB1875; Disney is part of the magic of being there, especially for kids.

Enjoy, it's a great place.

Edit: and also, the iTrolley goes right along international drive so that's fine for getting around if you don't want to drive. I'd say driving would be essential if you were staying in a villa or similar in Kissime. I'd say SeaWorld is also a great place to go.

Universal has 2 parks, Disney has 4 so it's not as simple as you might think. It pretty much takes a day to do each park, especially if it is busy because you can spend a seriously long time queueing! On top of those there is also sea world. Travelling a bit further you can visit the space centre or Busch gardens.

You definitely are mate, although give Epcot a miss, it's horrible. Other people may like it but i wouldn't waste my time. You have to go to Magic Kingdom, castle, Mickey etc. MGM and Animal Kingdom are both excellent.

Driving is definitely not essential, as per earlier post, i-trollies will sort you right out, i drove because i goto the ice hockey over there etc.

Best place for tickets is http://www.floridatix.co.uk, much more expensive if you buy over there.

Soppily i proposed to my Wife in discovery cove with the aid of a dolphin. It's an excellent place and the snorkel area with the rays etc is just unreal.

Being on i-drive you have access to absolutely everything, two must see attractions on i-drive are Ripleys believe it or not and Wonderworks.

There are so many places to eat on i-drive also, Disney is 15 mins down the I4 and there are regular bus services.

Make sure your Visas are all sorted, customs can be a cant. Even now with a permanent resident Green Card, I still get taken to the back when I enter the country. I was deported over ten years ago, and it still shows up. I'll save that story for another day.

You can get an Orlando Flexticket that does 14 days Universal, Islands Of Adventure, Wet and Wild, Seaworld and Busch Gardens for about 200. Busch Gardens is a bit of a trek across to Tampa but worth the effort. Be prepared to queue for hours or fork out for quick passes. Take a few drinks in with you and what you save can pay for fast pass. I'm sitting on balcony having a beer at 12.45 and it's still roasting.

You dont need a sat nav for the parks, so easy to find them, drivings a doddle, just take YOur time, break the bank, do it all, 2 parks at universal are magic, its all magic, a mite have some panflets and flyers if YOur intrested? We done discovery cove 4 years ago and had a brilliant time but believe me it not the best day out in Orlando! We could all sit here and tell you how good this place is but NOTHING is gona prepare you for what you are going to experiance! Simply awsome, if you want me to dig out those panflets geez a PM and al have a look to see if i still have them!!
