I was in exactly the same situation, I'm in a band higher than all my neighbours ( all the houses the same) and could have used that as a bargaining tool to try and get mine reduced.Decided against it as it was guaranteed the cooncil would put everyone else up instead of me down.

Whoever 'grassed' no doubt knew what would happen.
