Following on from the best cover versions thread what is the song that has been covered most dreadfully over the years?

For starters I give you joy division love will tear us apart and this john Lewis advert X factor live lounge effort:

Love Will Tear Us Apart - Nerina Pallot - YouTube

But, nearly every cover of that song has been dreadful, add nothing to the original, don't understand the song and
an insult to Ian's memory.

Anyone else for a moan/rant
 
Go to Tamsons on a Friday night then you'll ken whit a murrdet song is ;-)

That BBC Arts advert with all those nonentities covering the Beach Boys God only knows....how to murder one of the most endearing love songs ever written in one take..
 
'You've lost that loving feeling ' will have taken a few hammerings over the years.

The guy from Hi de Hi doing one 'memorable' version.

Listening to it is like watching hearts play...
 
That cover of Mad World by Tears for Fears that was big a few years ago drove me up the wall. Sucked all the energy out of it and turned it into a right soppy miserable dirge.

That glossy R&B version of "Stop Me..." By The Smiths was guilty of similar by taking a frenetic tune and turning into something dull as dishwater.

I agree. I can only hope it offers a silver lining in signalling an end to these woeful BBC compilation covers.

A musical anomaly......Hylda and Arthur truly murder a song......yet makes it for me more entertaining than the original.

God Only Knows is a thing of beauty. They should bring out some sort of legislation against it being butchered in that way.
