Morrissey?

surely one of the most iconic figures in recent history :fyi:

:coffee:
I expect most people in Britain probably don't know who he is.

An icon for men of a certain age who were troubled adolescents perhaps.

I think he's a diddy, although slightly good value for the way he annoys the very sort of person who adores him, with some of his dodgy political statements.

What, are we not talking about that talentless prick from the Smiths then? Okay, if not then geis some info on the other Morrisey please.

I though the smiths were excellent when I was a kid. I still think the music is top notch. I even still love the harmonies morrissey did with his vocals. I admit it is an acquired, if not delusional, taste.

Good band, wank front man.

Edit: I listen to That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore about once a year but have no desire to put myself through the rest of their pish, there's far more interesting stuff to discover. Why waste your time going over old ground?

eh? Yes we are. I'm not sure how this relates to the bit you highlighted.

It relates mainly due to the fact that Morrisey from the Smiths is probably pretty well known to quite a lot [if not most] folk in the country.

Why wouldn't people know who he is, he wasn't exactly a secret.

i think a very large number of people have little interest in pop music and another large number are not in the age range where he had his moment in the sun. many who are aware of him will only be vaguely so. buckie's claims to iconhood are way OTT. many more people buy the records of cliff richard than every bought a morrisey record. outside certain circles - ones that coincide with the age group and general interests prevalent on this board - i expect he's a very marginal figure.

You're not one for admitting he is wrong bro.

I'm pretty sure that out of everyone I know, everyoe will have heard of morrisy [outside young nephews/neices and such like]. The thread was posted on a forum where I would suspect the majority of usual suspects will have heard of him.

That's my whole point. Pat Stanton would be an icon on this forum; it doesn't mean he's 'one of the most iconic figures in recent history'. For different reasons in respect of Stanton and Morrissey, we do not represent Joe Public of the UK.

ps I think I admit I'm wrong more than most on here. And not because i'm wrong more than most.

I would probably say more of a cult figure buckie:g:more to do with his following of fans.ive seen him live a few times and he was top dollar.great frontman but would have to say bit of a knob and head up his own arse, but that aint to unusual for a front man of an mancunian band:giggle:

I like Morrissey and The Smiths. His solo output has been weak since the mid-ninties mind you. Had he retired gracefully after 'Withnail and I' he would be held in greater esteem today.
