I've been following the news on this tourist sub called the titan that's used to visit the wreck of the Titanic. 250k per person to visit. I remember hearing about this a while ago and thought it was a distaster waiting to happen. Now the sub is lost with 5 people on board and less than 96 hours of air. Sadly I don't see any chance of a happy ending here.

Guy on TV said if they near the bottom they have around 1 percent chance. Hope that they make it.

Probably nothing in place for recovery of the sub if the worst happened 😩

Exactly.. even with sonar there is so much wreckage down there that it could take years to find and even if they did find it quickly its not like they can fire a length of rope down to pull them up.

Horrible situation for those involved, sadly the chances of a successful rescue don’t appear to be very promising either.

Reading about the design, safety features (or lack of), and the waiver people have to sign… sounds like anyone getting on that thing would have been fully aware of the significant risks.

The CEO of the sub company is one of the 5 people onboard

I dont think P&G is lacking compassion with his statement.
FWIW I'm with him on this.
Its news, yes.
But not the top story.

I get where you & P&G are coming from.

Anything Titanic-related seems to push a story way up to the top of the news agenda. Had the sub been diving to the wreckage of another ship, I doubt it would be receiving the same attention.

Yes I agree, the bastard Boris and cost of living crisis in Britain should be top story in a British newspaper. This is of course a newsworthy story but already being called out quite rightly as deflection in the Mail etc.

The Daily Mail calling out deflection! You don't get irony obviously.

BIG G
Oh I get it OK. Perhaps I could have worded my post to make it easier to understand. The story all over the front page of the Mail is quite rightly being called out as deflection by any *&*^ with any sense.

No *&*^ with any sense reads the Daily Mail.

BIG G
You don't need to read the Mail to know what's all over the front page. Every news channel, fb, twitter etc all showing it. So I repeat.. any *&*^ with any sense is calling it out as deflection.

Rich people with more money than sense get themselves into trouble.I should be more caring I guess.
I somewhat agree.

On a human level it could turn out to be very sad for them, their families and friends. I hope it turn out well for them all.

If they hadn't been billionaires with money to burn ($250,000 a pop) they wouldn't be there.

As for the media ... anything to do with Titanic makes the headlines.

Been watching it, for me it's just going to be a recovery operation, it's at serious depths and currently nobody knows if those are on board are still alive, I have my doubts that they would be, the pressure that far down would be pretty crap for something so cheaply made.

Reading another article on this and apparently the sub is essentially a kit car built with of the shelf parts from amazon.. with installed camping lights and guided with a PlayStation controller.... apparently you need to sign a waver before going aboard as the vessel is deemed experimental and not been approved or certified by any regulatory body.

Yup heard that on sly news aswell, just for some context a nuke sub goes down to 650 feet and this wee Amazon vessel is down at 12.500 feet 😶

God i hope not.
Would have been mercifully quick though if correct.
From what they are saying the sub was 1 hour 45 mins down and it takes 2 to get down and contact was lost after 1 hour 45 leading to suspicions of a sudden loss of power down to something like a implosion. They also say the sub should be around where it went down but they can't find anything

Yes they're only there because of their immense wealth and yes they probably did have more money than sense when signing up to this adventure but it's still an incredibly sad story no matter how much money they all had.

Based on the assumption that I don't think they'll be pulled out alive, I really hope there has been a very quick ending for them all and they haven't known much about it, rather than the alternative which is that they're still floating around the depths of the Atlantic Ocean knowing that they are trapped and quickly running out of oxygen. That would be an unimaginably terrifying situation for anyone to be in.

New reports saying banging being heard but not yet saying if they have located its source.. imagine the terror of waiting in a pitch black can at the bottom of the sea....I think id have shat my entire intestines out my body

Running out of oxygen is apparently one of the best ways to die. You just drift off to sleep never to wake up again.

Maybe that part would be, but I think the impending doom of being stuck in a small submarine at the bottom of the Atlantic would be unimaginably horrible.

I'm sadder that there is such a thing as billionaires whilst millions starve to death in places like Africa and Asia.

As Zab says the time of death itself may well be quite peaceful but the days and hours leading up to that point would be quite terrifying that I struggle to even comprehend what it must be like.

The banging is being dismissed now as not relevent
