Mike Denness RIP

Douglas Jardine. born in Bombay of Scots parents was considered Scottish despite what the article states. He captained England during the infamous 'Bodyline' tour of Australia in 1932/3.

Sad to see Mike Denness passing away. He was a terrific captain for Kent in something of a golden era for the county with a lot of silverware. An elegant and stylish batsman, he scored heavily at county level in a great opening partnership with Brian Luckhurst but was found wanting (like everyone else!) when coming up against the Aussie pace attack of Lillee and Thomson, actually dropping himself from the side during the series.

A very good player, a gentleman too and a Bellshill boy.

Rest in Peace
