If your out and about tonight and decide to drop into Mickey D's for a burger (yeh I know many wouldn't)..anyway if you do then spare a thought to the staff who have been rota'd on to work overnight tonight and try to be nice to them. My son is one, and they are having to work for not one penny more than their standard wage (usually somewhere between £5-7.50 an hour). The stick some of them take is incredible, and yes they can be slow or get the odd order wrong, but that is usually when they have a new start on the tills, learning the job. I saw a young girl getting terrible abuse the other week and it was her first day...she was about 16! My three sons have all worked for them at one point or another...not everyone can just get fantastic jobs when they leave school. You might have reservations about the corporate empire, but the kids they employ are not there because it is their dream job. Shame on them not even offering time and a half for New year overnight.

They don't get tips like most restaurant staff so have no way of boosting their wage other than work incredibly long hours, which I know my son does, usually 10-12 hours a day

Burger King disnae make us work New Year.:thumbgrin

J when I worked in a pub I never got double time or time and a half for working Xmas or New Year. Hey ho. Probably put up with more $#@! too.

It's no a competition... I think Davy's made a really good point.

I'm sure if you were to have posted similar you probably would have got the same sympathy.

Note the word in bold.

McDonald's has been accused of super-sized tax avoidance after apparently dodging more than £700million worth of taxes across Europe, funnelling billions of pounds through Luxembourg to reduce its tax bill.

Nice to see that they manage to pay youngsters 2p above the minimum wage. 'I'm Lovin' It'.....not.

BIG G

If we're gonna be 'sparing a thought' for folk working at this time of year I think folk working for the emergency services, NHS etc are first in that queue.

do you ever post anything nice about anything?

We do..a lot, their thanked on TV and newspapers a lot. They are well deserving. I am also working during new year, but my work contract is a bit better than McDonalds

Yep, it was never meant to be a competition or a vote on who is worse off than who, I am sure there are worse people off in other countries as well. The point was exactly as Jamie stated. There are tons of people working over Christmas and New year, and most that never get any recognition. However as I stated there are a lot of youngsters working in McDonalds...and other hospitality jobs, who do receive a lot of abuse for a small wage. Happy Christmas to you all and a special mention to all who are struggling in any way at all...oh and my mum who is on an oxygen cylinder in hospital..is that's allowed

You would think that would be easy as well as obvious;

Maybe I read your post the wrong way but that's the way it came across to me. I've worked many jobs over the festive seasons and received hee haw in bonuses and/or extra wages. I just got on with it, the way of the world I'm afraid.
The nhs nurse that I know gets double time and a lieu day for tomorrow.
I used to have the option of working for double time but the torn faced public moaned that much about having to pay it I just parked my taxi the last couple of years I had it.

For any Bouncer or indeed everyone working tonight.

Thank you.

I hope I only get to meet waiting and bar staff :-)
