Best of luck in the Scottish cup final today:dub:

they should stick to GIRLS football:smug:This game was ruined by having a girl as a ref:shock:and a very poor linesman
If girls cant play football along side boys from the age 14
why have a girl as an official in youth footballthey should stick to GIRLS football:smug:
According to this blog the game was ruined by the behaviour of a load of adults who really should have known better.

SUNDAYS under-16 Scottish Youth Cup Final presentation at Airdrie was marred by scenes of anger, bitter recriminations and shocking verbal abuse directed at the four match officials as well as those from the Scottish Youth FA. All that is wrong about football was contained in the scenes in front of the main stand at Airdrie where the presentation of the magnificent trophy to the deserved winners, Edinburgh City, took place following their 2-1 victory over Leith Athletic. The young referee in charge of the game, Fiona Morton, could not get off the pitch quick enough at the finish and who could blame her? This potentially wonderful under-16 cup final went horribly wrong when the stand-side lineman did not flag for what appeared to be a blatant foul on a Leith player and to add insult to injury it was in front of the massed Leith Athletic fans. The match official, who appeared to be out of her depth as the appointed referee for what was always going to be a very highly charged, and emotional game, allowed play to continue and Edinburgh City went up to the other end and scored! All hell broke loose in the stands and it was all downhill as far as this game was concerned from then on. A Leith official with the under-16s was banished on the say-so of the linesman who appeared to get far too involved with the Leith contingent in general and the resultant scenes at the close of play were very undignified, indeed. The level of anger among the Leith players had to be seen to be believed. Blameless in all this confusion, shouting and swearing was the brilliant Edinburgh City under-16 squad. This team of young footballers are one of the best under-16 squads I have ever seen in youth club football, but they even had to curtail their celebrations in order not to cause any more problems in the dressing room area at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. When I left by the front door to make my way to my car, I was met with a barrage of very strong opinions from other Leith supporters. Most of them had sympathy with the referee, saying she should never have been put in charge of the game. It appeared to me from the comments made, the people to blame were those who appointed her. She was distraught at the finish and that was not surprising at all, as she had to stand in full glare as the shouting, swearing and verbal abuse was hurled down from the stand. Over many years, I have voiced my concerns at the level of hatred and dislike that exists in youth club football. It comes from adults with attitudes that should have no place in the game at this level. There are people in charge of youth football clubs in Edinburgh who are using the game at this level to further their own ambitions and the kids who have to pay lots of money to clubs in order to play for them, are quite frankly, being used by adults who want to further their own particular agendas. I try to go to many different places when I cover games at all levels and the attitude of adults varies enormously. Nothing has really been done to address the problems of football in Scotland, other than to fine clubs and suspend young footballers for indiscretions. I can only guess what will follow on from what happened at the end of the under-16 final in Airdrie. But everyone involved should remember, there was no animosity among the players on the pitch. The problems all came from adults! And if anyone reading this thinks they are better or even superior, then think again, because all of us - adults - are to blame for all the problems in football and society. Generally, we all have the wrong attitude. We are all to blame for allowing football to become a vehicle for our own ambitions, rather than those of the young people playing the game. I know others will vehemently disagree with my views and I respect the opinions of others. Being man enough to admit I am wrong is important to me, but certain others involved in youth club football do not have the same outlook. Many, in fact, will glory in what happened at Airdrie such is the current level of dislike for Leith Athletic in certain quarters of the game at this level! "
