Just back and we were very unlucky

Tonight we entered the stadium of the damned, many Hibs fans expecting a thumping, the gallant 900 there backing the team saw something very different, in a defensive masterclass from our 4/5 defenders and four midfielders, we were robbed of a point by what looked like a non foul leading to the Huns first goal and from my seat and the big screen at the hunnery, poor goalkeeping for their late winner. Lets be honest, the Huns are poor and we had them rattled. I am frustrated tonight not by the relatively normal shite one half good the other Hibs performance, I am frustrated because we played well and came away with nothing.

The Hibs support wound the Hun support up just before kick off, a large banner being unfurled, stating in big letters Fuck You Flo, You Rat Bastard! before being huckled away by the Hun Stewards and Hun Polis. Our songs really do annoy them, you can see their two brain cells pop when we taunt them, I am convinced they hate us at least as much as Celrc, I know I hate them.

We set up in what looked like a strange formation on paper, but in fact was a back four ably supported by the equally excellent Whittaker, Newell and Omeonga, Scottie working the magic, Doidge playing off scraps and Boyler trying (but failing) to play off the shoulder. I thought Hibernian were magnificent first half, there, I said it. To lose that goal on the half time was grossly unfair and I have not seen TV but the foul given to Morelos was never a foul in the lead up to their goal, certainly from my seat. We were under pressure a bit more second half and the midfield tired slightly, dare I say it Jack got his subs late and wrong, we needed more energy in midfield, for me we should have seen Hallberg on, with 15 to go?

Lastly, one up front doesn't work, we know that, Jack clearly disagrees, well we are not scoring or creating enough chances, so give it another think Jack pal.

The Team....

Rocky had some good stops but I am convinced he should have saved their winner. Tell me I am wrong please.

Paul McGinn was superb, especially first half. I really think John's big brother is a great signing.

Adam Jackson, well I doubted him after the Hamilton game, tonight, he too was superb, until going off hurt.

Paul Hanlon was magnificent. He scored too!

Lewis had Tavernier and the Haji in his back pocket first half, less so in the second. The Huns were booing Haji just before half time, the daft *&*^ gave him Man of the Match.

Omeonga, Whittaker and Newell - I am going for a group hug here, I thought all three were superb tonight, they played for each other, covered for one another, blocked, stopped and niggled until almost dead on their feet. All three were excellent, they needed reinforcements they didn't get.

Scottie was much more like the Scottie the Hibs fans love, he caused the intolerant filth no end of trouble, he struggled to find Doidge and Boyler, which was a pity.

Boyler didnae give us enough tonight, sorry. Not good enough.

Chris Doidge got in about them, and might have scored a late equaliser had he connected his header better. I reckon defenders know they have played against him, he hurts them with arms, shoves and going in strong. He is most certainly growing on me.

Subs

Daz in a straight swap for Jackson who took a knock, fair enough.

Horgan for Allan with 5 minutes of play and 5 minutes of stoppage time, baffling.

McNulty for Newell (which I never even seen happen) with two to go was pointless.

Management

Clever formation that nearly worked. I reckon the subs were late and wrong. I get Daz as a straight swap for the injured Jackson, but Horgan for Allan and McNulty for Newell with a few minutes to go were piss poor.

The Huns - I hate them. Have ever seen Gerrard win the league?

Just a word about the dirty hun bastard fans, 100's of them spent the whole game watching the Hibs support, shouting sectarian pish and telling us we are all junkies/ fenians/ taigs/ paeados, not a minute watching their rancid, trophyless 8 year old club. They are a boil on the arse of the Scottish nation, a big, reddy orange, festering, puss filled, fucking plook, one I would fucking love to burst.

The Referee, expected nothing, got nothing. He too is a big, reddy orange festering, puss filled, fucking plook.

The Hibs support, the brave 900 gave our club great support before during and after the game. We really do get to the Huns, we were inside their tiny minds. Great pre match banner.

Man of the Match, jings no easy but for good reason. How could I split Paul Hanlon, Steven Whittaker, Stephane Omeonga and Joe Newell, all were magnificent. Well I have to and with that in mind I am giving it to Joe Newell by a ba' hair from the other three.

There ye go, the Hibs get beat and I wax lyrical about us. Its simple, we want Hibernian to play fitba, to show passion, fight and desire and not to be scared of going for it. That was my kind of Hibs tonight, its a real shame we didnae get at least a point from the game.

Next up STD Glasgow at Alloa, a bit of a fairy story for them. I hope we put 10 past them. I also hope another Kamberi banner appears, live on the BBC!

See you for a pie on a roll and cup of lentil soup on Sunday!

Hibernian Forever!
Bit unfair on Rocky for their second, the defence were badly positioned which left Hagi on his own but to be honest he still has a lot to do and he finished it well which gave Rocky no chance.

McGinn was brilliant last night and as @SuperTortolano said I think he will be a great signing.

Just watched the highlights including the goals. Just didn't clear our lines properly for both goals conceded. Newell a bit unlucky not to score in the first half. Hagi took the winning goal really well, although the ball broke kindly to him in space. Just hate it when Hibs lose goals late on in a game and points are thrown away. Happened far too often this season and against the smaller clubs more often than not.

I agree. He was hugely consistent the games previous I thought and had one bad 45 mins along with others that night it has to be said.
I’m surprised by his absence too, thought he was one of our better performers this season. Biggest criticism I have of him is his lack of stamina, seems to really struggle to last 90 minutes.

The defending for both goals is poor. We can criticise individual errors, but the bigger problem is that we were under constant pressure, and that inevitably told for both goals.

Watched the whole game on Hesgoals via Zombie TV. Newell was unlucky with his chance as he tried to beat McGregor at the near post, although if he squares it to Doidge he has a tap in, unbelievable pass from Scotty, apart from that we were pinned back with constant attack after attack, we never really created much apart from Boyle’s efforts that was too easy for McGregor.

Funny just said somethng similar on the other thread of how you see game on the telly v how you see it live. Walking back to the car park with fellow Hibs fans we all felt the same.

Thanks for the point on Rocky, from the other end of the ground, he looked like might have saved it. What about the "foul" on Morelos for their equaliser?
I thought the foul was very soft, usual bottle merchant Ref performance.

IMO I wouldn't say we were 'very unlucky'. How could we have been? We got what we deserved which was sweet hee-haw. Beaten by the better team for lapses in concentration in key areas of the pitch. Didn't do enough in the attacking third to merit anything I'm sorry. We all want to see Hibs win and if not put up a battle. For me the team needs significant change come Summer.

Enough positives from individual players but overall have to disagree with OP in that we got what we deserved. Nada. We matched them in the first half then sat back too deep and let them put us to the sword. The only surprise was how long it took them to score in the 2nd half. They could have scored 5.

I didnt take to Hecky, thought he was tactically dire, even when he'd just won us 10 points of out 12. Not really taken to Ross either. He's got lots of good individual attacking players in the squad but the setup and the way he wants us to play football is industrial. Thankfully Scotty and Boyler brighten up the play because overall its not pretty. Dreams of fast flowing one touch football, or even counter-attacking brilliance, have been sacrificed to try and grind out results.

How can you blame JR when it was once again the defence that let us down with their own positioning.

I think Ross has done ok, nobody's going tk have a magic wand with the current squad, summer window will be when the real work is done.

Correct.
Ross was Hibs third manager of 2019. A total joke of a situation for the joint third biggest club in the country. The squad he has inherited is a hotch-potch of good, bad and indifferent players assembled by the previous three managers...Stubbs, Lennon and Heckingbottom. It's unbalanced. It lacks mental strength. We do not have enough ball winners. We lack leaders. Given the situation he found himself in when he got the job I think he has done well to steady the ship, get us up the league, and in addition we have had some great results and performances whilst understandably we have had some bad ones as well.
I wasn't at the match last night but i'm taking from all reports that Hibs were camped in their own half for almost all of the second half. Practically every neutral would have predicted that would transpire at half-time with the score at 1-1. Why ? The huns absolutely had to win after falling seven points behind Smellies... going for the league title. They were under huge pressure. Also, well..here's a surprise, they have better players than us because they have invested massively in their squad. Every team in the league will be under the cosh at Ibrox, we are no different. In such a situation you have to work bloody hard and defend well and It sounds like we were doing just that, until yet again a late goal conceded cost us points. All these flaws in our team cannot be corrected overnight. It will take two or three windows along with (please) some great young players coming through from the youth academy.
IMO the team play some good attacking football under Ross. That's been the one thing I have noticed since he took over. We attack with much more purpose and thought than before and he has got the best out of players like Doidge, Boyle, Jackson and Newell. He is also not afraid to change things during a game when we need to. I like the guy. He was the manager I wanted at Hibs given who was realistically available to us, and I am confident he will start to show next season just what a good manager he really is.

I watched on TV but my opinion is closer tae yours than it is of others who viewed on TV, I didnae think we were anywhere near as bad as some folk are trying tae make out but I guess they're entitled tae their opinion. Good just back 👍

I dont think we were bad either.. sometimes defending is just the order of the day.
We had good defensive performances throughout the team.
First half we had chances to break and make things happen, second half they were just a better side.

There's not a chance that they keep Hagi, watched it on the Hun channel and I thought it was quite obvious that he was thinking steps ahead of everyone else in their side. Dunno that he should've been sent off either?

Jack Ross can't fully be judged this season either. For this season we should just look at whether he's improved us or not... I'd say yes considering some of the showings before he arrived.
He's rotated and used virtually every member of the squad, he's obviously still trying to figure it out. It's clear theres a big job to be done this summer and I think the type of business we've been linked with, shows the type of player and idea for his Hibs.
I'm optimistic.
Im less worried about Jack Ross than I am about what's going on above him.. I was hoping to hear from Ron in January, sure that's what we were told.
I can accept not blasting the budget this season and staying within our original agreed plan before the takeover... But it also feels like there's no hint at it changing yet either...

Sorry that's off topic..

Agree pretty much with the original post. Even on Scott looking a bit better, he tried to make things happen but we were forced to defend... I also spied him being the first line of defence on the edge of the box a couple times. Just shows we shouldnt complain so much that we were defending, he was forced to get back there too.

Not blaming JR for any one mistake on the pitch. Just moaning at him having us play turgid industrial hoofball every week. Thank fuck for Scotty and Boyler or it would be eye bleedingly rubbish.

Noting I saw it from the other end of the ground live, not on the tv. I did also ask what people who watched it on the box what they thought? My mate confirmed it was not Rocky's fault.
