It's amazing what a vindaloo the night before a game can do for you.Well he's making the runs at least

Dies then ?he won’t go with two forwards - and I think he’s justified after the last couple of weeks. We’re creating plenty chances just not scoring. We might see a change in personnel but the system and tactics will be what he lives and dies on.
Thing is he didn't score. I wouldn't have said he had a good game anyway. It wasn't just his scoring (or lack thereof) that deserved my scorn, he was really slow and I don't think he particularly held the ball up that well. I felt nervous everytime he had the ball, some really good moves that died when he got the ball. That might be him playing on his own up front, it might not but I wouldn't say he's earnt his place.Strangely enough, if Doidge had scored even one of the four chances, people would say that he had a good game. He held the ball up well, brought other players into the game and his runs were top drawer.
Having watched those misses a few times it looks like he just doesn't have what it takes to put the ball in the net and it's actually easier to play it to Allan, who he must've noticed. Is it a confidence thing with Doidge? Everyone thought that lad Cosgrove was as much use as a hatstand on rollerskates until it clicked for him.
League 2 in England is a poor league but I don't think you can rack up a huge goal tally like Doidge did by being shit at shooting. It's usually the other stuff (the hold up play, being outwitted by better quality defenders etc...) that prevents lower league super strikers from making the transition, but Doidge seems to have that?

Bang on the money.Thing is he didn't score. I wouldn't have said he had a good game anyway. I saw the replays and they were worse on TV than live. the amount of space he had on at least two of them and punted them straight at the keeper, the one early in the first half and where he was fouled in the build up I think anyone could have missed but the other two showed a lack of confidence and awareness.
The saving grace was the fact that he did the runs and beat the offside trap, but that is not enough if you're not going to score from the runs. McNulty was doing similar and putting them in.
Also, (cause I sound so negative) I thought the rest of the team was outstanding and the fact that he had 4 clear chances shows the progress made.
Cosgrove was crap in his first few games for Aberdeen...now he is easily their most reliable goalscorer and one of the best strikers in the league. I still cling to the hope that Christian Doidge might end up being the same for us.
Graham was an old fashioned penalty box striker that never got the crosses into the box to get his nut on. I think with someone to whip decent balls in we could have got more out of him even if he was somewhat limited. Scored 14 goals last season and has 3 so far. He seems to be finding his feet again. The Forest Green Rovers season ticket holders at my work rated him really highly, but then again the Cheltenham Town ST holders spoke well of Brian Graham and Jordon Forster...
My opinion is that League 2 is on par with the Scottish championship, maybe not even that good.
I so want you to be right, GM but then I remember that a striker called Colin Nish couldn't even make it at Hibs...Cosgrove was crap in his first few games for Aberdeen...now he is easily their most reliable goalscorer and one of the best strikers in the league. That's exactly what I'm saying bud. He was a decent striker but was humpty for Hibs. So if he couldn't make it at Hibs what chance has Doidge got?FYI Colin Nish is one of the top ten strikers of the SPL era (98-2013). Goal machine!

I read the Mallan response to McInnes calling him a diver.I watched him quite a few times for FGR and he was a really natural goalscorer, a proper poacher. Like you say, once you're in those positions the situation is the same against Barcelona or Newport County, essentially. So I hope he's just massively underconfident and will 'click' at some point.

Trust me Henry old bean. Nish was pish for Hibs.Presumably those are Nish's SPL goals though? Which would suggest that he wasn't necessarily the problem?

I'd take Colin Nish right now! He wasn't bad as a support act to Stokes and Deeks in Yogi's first season, sometimes we'd even play all 3. Scored a few goals at the tail end of that season to take us into Europe.

Nish was decent striker in my opinion...he could score goals and he linked up well with others.Yeah, Nish was ok, third choice and he was usually good for about 10 a season. It's a shame our defence was so shite back then because we went through a plethora of great attacking players during the Mixu/Yogi days.
I agree with you about his performance that day and I was watching from the East stand. We all want Doidge to come good and prove most of us wrong. I'm sorry but I just don't see it happening.
I was in hospitality for the game against the lesser greens, so was not sitting next to my usual crowd. I could not believe the hype surrounding him after the game . I thought he was dung. He was pushed off the ball a few times, three times Brown beat him in the air, he knocked it on to nobody about 5 times. Even his " goal " was going nowhere until it hit the smelly. He plays with his head down, and doesn't have any pace of note. I've never seen him attack a header with any conviction, take a man on , or play a teammate through.
He has a lot of room for improvement, I wish him well, I really do. We all do.
He has been asked to play for one of the greatest clubs , he is probably getting paid quite handsomely, he tries quite hard. I can't blame him for taking the opportunity.
Selective memory methinks[emoji848] Just trawl the Nish threads from years back on here.
You will certainly get pics of baby giraffes amongst all the abuse. Tons of rage. Par for the course, of course, regarding Hibs strikers.

Was thinking the same thing. It’s amazing how poor to average ex players suddenly become “good” when they leave us.

I felt sorry for him in the end. He was a Hibs fan that got to live the dream and failed big time. Maybe tried too hard to rectify his game but would end up tripping over his feet and on his arse time and time again. It would drive you round the bend watching him trying to jump and never win a header. What was the saying again? He's 6 fit 4 but when he jumps he becomes 5 fit 2. As I said just type his name in the search engine and you'll see what I'm on about...Oh yeah I know, but if he was able to score elsewhere at the same level then the fault must presumably have been the team he was in. So I'm not sure it follows that Doidge is doomed. At least not for that reason.
Spent most of the time falling on his backside. His 30 yarder at Tannadice straight into the top corner is probably my best memory of him.Nish was decent striker in my opinion...he could score goals and he linked up well with others.
Don’t get this continuous debate about Dudge when Flo is a far better finisher , who would have netted 90% of Dudges missed sitters .Just don’t get it ?I felt sorry for him in the end. As for Doidge, my jury is still oot on him but the more times he fluffs these sitters the harder it is gonna get for him. What I've noticed is he is not a true striker of the ball, it's aw sclaffs, mishits and trundlers. Still, he is getting in these positions but so did James Collins and his sitters seem very similar.
Christ Deek was told he was a lazy shite, JC is now deemed a crap 1st Div player, Sparky is a badge kissing judas...etc etc etc
Hibs fans and strikers are pure mental. If your good you'll get it tight and if you're shite you'll get it tighter. Doidge needs a goal fast cos as I said better strikers than him have failed at their time at Hibs.

or his hat-ttrick in the 6-6 draw at Motherwell,...Nish double at Tannadice to clinch European spot last game of season 2010 probably his best Hibs moment
4 goals in 15 games. Season 07/08or his hat-ttrick in the 6-6 draw at Motherwell,...
He scored goals regularly for every club he played for including Hibs.
Loved it all the more as I was getting all the usual Nish is P before the game from United pals. Definitely his finest moment. Top guy just not the best player.Nish double at Tannadice to clinch European spot last game of season 2010 probably his best Hibs moment
