Can't see a thread for this, but just been watching Dead Reckoning a drama documentary about the life of Jimmy Savile. Its quite chilling, and sickening at some parts. This episode covered his dodgy relationship with Margaret Thatcher, quite an eye opener!
I remember seeing him a few times as he lived near me when I was in Leeds long time ago.

I've not watched it but I understand the BBC has removed the worst bit of their involvement/embarrassment.

I'll wait for the directors cut!

Just finished watching it unbelievable what he got away with

Met him once when I was working at Carstairs Hospital guy was brilliant makes me sick to my stomach now knowing what he did

The guy Kevin who was abused as a child and has had to live with this his who life has my upmost respect and my heart breaks for him and all the children involved. My Savile rot in hell.

It's truly astounding how close he was to the Royal Family, and how he effectively hadthe keys to a mental institution.

Saying that though....there's a few nonces throughout the years within the Royal Family.

I’m not a Steve Coogan fan, but that was a brilliant piece of acting.
I am a Steve Coogan fan and agree, great acting. He got it absolutely spot on despite not looking all that much like him. To the point you couldn’t always tell the difference when they showed the actual footage of Savile.

Coogan is also really good in the fairly recent Laurel & Hardy film I thought.

How it went undetected for so long by the police and allowed to continue by the bbc is completely mind-boggling . Absolute deviant , probably worst of all the celebrity bawsacks 😡

Watched it too. One thing that did piss me off about it was, no mention whatsoever of Saviles questionable close friendship with King/prince big ears. The show was happy to throw dead people under a bus but avoided pointing the finger at any royals

I'm sure some episodes included news footage of Savile with Charles.

Pretty sure it never went undetected, just never followed up but obviously covered up.

I watched it today Steve coogan was brilliant...I can't believe he got away with it for so long. Even as kids we all thought he was a creep. I've heard other stories about Saville that weren't in the drama.

But it didn’t really go undetected did it?
A few called him out, including Johnny rotten in the 80s. He openly said everyone knows what he gets up to, but you are not allowed to mention it.

Was just thinking exactly that but couldn’t remember who it was that said it. Was it not on a live talkshow that he said it 👀

Police then, saying that you just have to look at the met to see they wouldny think he was doin owt wrong 😡

Irvine Welsh done an entire short story (in ‘Ecstasy’) based on Jimmy Savile and his behaviour particularly in hospitals, and that was written in the 90’s I’m sure.

The BBC banned him for his comments. What does that tell you?

The Met was and I’m sure still is, baw deep deep in corruption and deviance.

He sure did. And it was obvious who he was talking about, even I worked it out while reading it, who he was on about.
Yet when Saville died, and all the revelations came out, the media acted all surprised. I honestly remember at the time thinking “ you two faced living bastards. If I had my suspicions, you all knew”. For me , what’s ignored now, is Saville could direct a lot of money towards whoever he chose. Which is why, so many people covered up, or at the very least, turned a blind eye.Money, the route of all evil ( well, that and religion 😔)
The security services such as Mi5, if they are even a fraction efficient of what we are led to believe, must have known his business. But still the Royals lapped him up. You’ve really got to ask questions on that one.
It’s not like he even looked a bit of a wrongun, is it ? 😳😳😳😳

I must be the only one who never heard any rumours and knew nothing about him till it all came out. I might have thought he was gay but that's about it

Tbh i think the Savile rumours could circulate without response because they're so far from normal scandal that they were treated as a pisstake. 'Jimmy Savile fucks dead kids' was treated as a variant of 'Lord Lucan is Seabiscuit', or like a Sunday Sport headline

Reading that was the first time I realised that Jimmy Savile might be more than just a tedious, weird old arsehole. It was clear who it was based on.

Is that the Steve Coogan thing?Horrible horrible man.The bit where he's touching up a young woman whilst broadcasting his show is sickening.

I dont mean to come over as a smart arse, but I always thought he looked like a wrong un. Im talking back in Jim’ll fix it days. Early 80’s? Part of his image, was being a sleazy creep . He was full of innuendo, staring and pawing at women, very very touchy feely with girls of all ages.
He couldn’t have dressed more like a perv if he had got a stylist for it.
Quite a few people alluded to him being a bit dodgy over the years ( as J Rotten did) I’m sure . Loads of people knew, the whole industry knew.
Louis Theroux made a documentary about him, and asked Saville about ALL the accusations about him ffs. And when he died, they all acted surprised he was dodgy. Weird.

Oh, 100%. But that's the hiding in plain sight aspect. *Clearly* he was a weirdo, but the rumours would be so outlandish nobody bought them. Paedo necrophiliac vs 'i bet you a tenner he's been weird with some 14 year olds'

Common theme amongst nonces, or famous ones at least, is being teetotal. Savile, Rolf Harris, Gary Glitter (albeit recovering alcoholic), Johnathan King and Max Clifford were all teetotal. That can't be coincidence, Shirley?

Was John Peel teetotal?Eh.....no.
