Jimmy Greaves RIP

Always seemed like a decent bloke.
Read a cracking article about him once.

He hadn't attended an awards ceremony and a reporter said to him, "I suppose it must be hard for people like you to go to events where there's free drink". Clearly having a pathetic dig at Jimmy's drink problems.
Jimmy replied, "I suppose it must be hard for people like you not to go to events where there's free drink"

RIP Jimmy

I heard it said his finishing had all the satisfying precision and finality of a door closing on a Rolls Royce. Saw him once playing for Spurs in a pre-season friendly at Tynecastle late 60s, can picture in my mind's eye a scissor-kick shot over the bar at the school end.

Saddened to hear of the great Jimmy Greaves passing today. The superlatives for Jimmy are indeed long exhausted. As good an out and out goalscorer as has ever stepped on a football pitch, clinical and predatory when the goal was anywhere remotely within his sights.

I thought he was also a lovely man with a great sense of humour too. As a pundit they were always fun times but let it be said that Jimmy never minced his words when the truth needed telling. Any nonsense and he would call it out.

It should be remembered the courage and dedication he showed for all those years in dealing with his addiction to alcohol too. He truly was a remarkable man and sportsman.

Irreplacable and unforgettable - the great Jimmy Greaves. Rest in Peace.
