Jack Shepherd , the actor, playwright and theatre director has died, aged 85, most famous for “Wycliffe” , but for older bouncers, first came to prominence, as the left-wing young Labour MP, in the to drama “Bill Brand” by Trevor Griffiths.

There is a story that one of the other actors, Jimmy Yuill was seriously ill and HTV refused to reinsure him for medical purposes , so at the end of the fifth season, Jack Shepherd and the other members of the crew, refused to make any more episodes.
Fortunately, Jimmy Yulli made a full recovery from meningitis and is still with us
