Renewed my car insurance 19th July.
30 quid dearer than last year( £180), but not too bad in the present climate.
Bought a new motor two weeks ago.
Phoned the insurer to tell them.
They wanted £ 430 notes.
Tried the usual comparison sites and got it for 210 quid via the RAC.
Phoned the first mob today to cancel.
From my £180 , paid 6 weeks ago, I got back £75.
Good work if you can get it.

Mine is due on the 15th , gone up from £360 last year to £540 this year . The worst thing is i can't find anywhere cheaper . Normally phone and get it down but they refuse to budge this year

I use Liverpool Victoria, three years in a row they have dropped the price slightly.

Christ, what are you driving?
E class , same as the last 2 year i've been with them . Had a CLK before that , never had prices like this but i'm seeing lots of people on about massive jumps

Martin Lewis says it's best to renew your insurance 6 weeks in advance. Shows your a bit savvy and after that, the closer to renewal, a wee bit desperate.

I bought a new car a few weeks back - switched my insurance from the old one for the same price (about £300). When I went to pick the new car up I wasn’t happy - I spotted a few faults so I refused to to take it. Immediately cancelled the insurance - big mistake. Two weeks later I bought another identical car but because I was now effectively starting from scratch it cost me £650 and I’d lost all my free perks like roadside assistance. Raging.

Sorry, its 3 to 4 weeks.

Here's all his tips.

Just had my renewal notice from LV. 80% increase: up to £513 annually from £285 last year. Ridiculous.

I've insured a few motors this year, cancelled a couple along the way and every time it goes up and up.

Some quotes on the comparison sites are just mental.

Too many brokers on those sites too, end up paying them, not the insurance companies.
One of mine was insurance provided by someone, but I was paying a completely different company.
