would have just planted this at the end of an indy ref thread but it has some wider interest. It's a relatively clear summation of some basic facts comparing the UK and Scandinavian tax systems. The author is from the STUC so you can factor this in. He is going to post 2 further blogs covering economic development and work.

I am suspicious of the attempt to crowbar us into a Scandinavian model. We are not much like Norway.

boom boom!

Yes, the analysis is more just a comparative exercise so certainly not advocating wholesale scandinavianisation but it does have interesting things to say about progressive taxation and the implications of us thinking in a more scandinavian way.

It is pretty safe to say that we are already being forced into a London model which does not fit many, if any, of the sentiments held by what seems to be a majority of the Scottish people. Especially a Tory controled London model at that, though to be honest "New Labour" weren't much different.

Of course the most important thing of all is that in an Independent Scotland every time there was an election the people would be able to state their feelings on the system being placed upon us. This has already been put to use in the elections for the devolved government with the support for the SNPs views on things like healthcare and benefits being chosen over the views of the Scottish branches of the London parties.
