Huntley in hospital.

Ian Huntley is a grotesque.

But also almost certainly an abused become abuser and / or a few slates short of a roof.

I'm not going to mourn the cnut if he doesnt make it, but it's a bit too easy to make a devil then throw stones at it

Nope, sorry couldn't give a fuck if he was "almost certainly abused" in the past.

I suspect you are just throwing that in there fishing, there has never been any proof that he has. Fuck him and anyone that defends him.

* i do not intend to respond to your incoming 14 paragraph treatise on why i am wrong.

I'm not fishing. These cases test my own resolve that we should try and resist the urge to vengeance.

Puts me in mind of this dialogue from Manhunter.
  • Will Graham: This started from an abused kid, a battered infant... There's something terrible about...
  • Jack Crawford: What are you, sympathizing with this guy?
  • Will Graham: Absolutely... My heart bleeds for him, as a child. Someone took a kid and manufactured a monster. At the same time, as an adult, he's irredeemable. He butchers whole families to pursue trivial fantasies... As an adult, someone should blow the sick fuck out of his socks...
  • [pause]
  • Will Graham: Do you think that's a contradiction, Jack? Does this kind of understanding make you uncomfortable?

I agree with this, I think the key to progress is breaking these depressing cycles of abuse.

The thing that absolutely disgusts me about Huntley though - and it was discussed here at the time - was he used an ambush defence in court, bringing forward key information at trial that he hadn’t disclosed to the police before that.

It’s a sick twisted kind of cnut that treats the death of children as some game.

Reminds me of a thread I want to start

It's a wee power trip for them as well P&G. They then have the upper hand for a while.

Yes he was a particularly evil little *&*^ and his death won't be mourned by anyone.

Well hopefully no one will have any sympathy for him.

But there are dafties out there who seem to find some kind of empathy for some reason.

Fingers crossed he survives this... he deserves to spend the rest of his days being fed through a straw.. hopefully lives to be a hundred

Not the way to think at all.

Hopefully he dies...and puts everyone out their misery.

His seat in Hell is reserved!

I don't feel sorry for the bastard, he's clearly a monster. The only slight empathy for someone like that is, surely they didn't choose to be that way. Something somewhere has gone really badly for someone to carry out those acts. Upbringing, brain fucked, who knows.

I'm pretty certain most of us have had some pretty dark intrusive thoughts in our lifetimes. People that have wronged us and fantasizing about carrying out revenge and what not. But there's something in our brains that quickly shut that shit down and carrying out those thoughts isn't even an option.

I can't even fathom what goes through the heads of people like this.

Aww shame.

Not a good thing to celebrate.
The death of another human being.
But, some exceptions can be made.
This is most certainly one of those.

This is how things break down. And it's the toughest cases that test the principle. Huntley was a monster, for whatever reason. So it's easy to be dismissive about his death. But people shouldn't be getting murdered in prison. It is a fundamental failure of the system. And where do you draw the line? If it's ok for Huntley to be murdered then who else is fair game?

24 hour lockdown, Archie?
Human rights etc, etc

People shouldn't be getting murdered anywhere but shit happens. Without keeping them locked up in solitary 24 hours a day there's going to be times they can be at risk.
How does the murder rate in prison compare to the outside world? I would guess it's less.

That's not my position mate. What @Archie said is closer to mine. HMP Frankland is a category A prison, meaning it has the highest level of security, and houses numerous of the UK high-profile inmates, including Michael Adebolajo, one of the two men convicted of murdering Lee Rigby; the serial killer Levi Bellfield and Wayne Couzens, the police officer who murdered Sarah Everard. The lovely mentalist Bronson was also there at one time, all monsters like Huntley. Whoever chibbed him, whenever that transpires, will have families of loved ones, somewhere saying that's the bloke who killed our son, raped and murdered our daughter or other henous crime. I've always over the years been bemused by comments on here about clearly wrong uns 'will get it inside' with tacit, law of the jungle conertations
I oppose the death penalty however I'm neither a pacifist, nor euphemistic gooder, however will not be dragged into bleak nihilism.

BIG G

Prison homicides in England and Wales.

There were 7 homicides in the 12 months to June 2025, an increase from no homicides in the previous 12 months. In most calendar years there are usually between 0 and 3 total homicides.

Archie may be onto something if 2025 figures are the new norm.

I'm not in the prison service and I get it's a really difficult situation. The guy who killed him was unlikely to get out so had nothing to lose. He might well like the fame. But prisoners are in the care of the state. And part of that should be to prevent inmates from getting murdered, no matter how grotesque they are.

Yeah the innocents in his family have suffered hugely, wouldn’t wish that on any family
I remember an image from the Dunblane inquiry. A poor, broken, bewildered woman - Hamilton's mother.

In a perfect world Archie.
The prisons are underfunded, understaffed and under pressure.

Ultimately he’s came to a messy end and deservedly so but the scumbag who murdered him has now killed 4 people.

Our jails are turning into jungles. We have prison officers shagging in the cells and now fellow scumbags getting murdered.

I would just be wary of the he had it coming chat. Theres huge issues down south with capacity and training.
