This popped-up in my 'YouTube' box tonight, but you might think this is an odd clip to put up, 'THEM' beating us 4-1 in 1973 -

Hearts v Hibs 1973 - YouTube

But it's not so much the actual match but for the telling comment/statistic at 00:40 -

"Remember, Hearts haven't beaten Hibs at Tynecastle for 10 years"

That's how it was then though, they really were gash, had been for years and they were basically nothing more than the East-Coast version of Partick Thistle - they existed but weren't to be taken serious !. If you google their results/attendances over the 60's/70's, it was clear they were on their way out. But then just 7 years later, the ftb, Wallet Merger took them over and started their 30+ years of 'Finance Football' business-model - a model that later owners copied, right up to Vlad (time will tell with Budge ??) !. So for any younger Hibees (well, ones under say 35 !!) who happen to have or know 'acquaintances' who do follow 'THEM', this clip is a nice way of reminding them that (other people's) money DID change things round for them dramatically, it WAS cheating and that the derbies haven't always been as they have recently (let's be honest, many of them actually believe it's been their way since both clubs were founded !!) - not so much for the score-line but that lovely, telling, wee statistic at 00:40 !!

P.s - This was the very 1st time I witnessed us losing to them and I was 13/14, I can remember the shame and horror I felt at this result, the thought of going into school on Monday to face jambo-classmates just filled me with dread - I mean, for years I'd never even contemplated what that experience would be like as it just seemed so outrageous and unlikely !!. If memory serves me right, though, our 'goalie' was Roddie Mackenzie and we'd signed him from Airdrie - and he had a howler in this game, the first derby since the 7-0 game too !!

Great post and lost on me at 22 but all I know is them hammering us since Mowbray left. No need for the vid either. Hate maroon tops and they hearts canutes.

I grew up in the 70s listening to games on the radio...my dad didnt much care about football and I was skint, and prob wouldnt have been allowed to go alone anyway. My first game was in late 1978...I consider myself part of the unluckiest era of fans ever to support Hibs give or take the odd cup win and 6-2

Imagine growing up in the Tornados era and not getting to go to the games :doh

10 years means little now after 30 in the other direction.

There are many ironies in this though - hibs have spent a quarter of a century recovering from hooky finance which never even went into the team. The gunts have cleaned up and hit the reset button over a season or two like most other clubs of any size - Leeds being the exception that springs to mind and of course rangers, who no longer exist

Remember it well. I just thought it was a blip, they has to win sometime. I assumed normal service would be resumed. I'm sure it was the first time they had scored a league goal against us for about 5/6 years.

Happy days. Green Flag Wave

Some stats person might know the exact figures, but between 1963 and 1983 I think Hearts beat us about four times in total. They were a joke team in the 70's Hibs were in a different class to them. I remember at school what few Hearts fans there were were just laughed at, and hardly anybody supported them at our school which being a catholic school in the north east of Edinburgh was no real surprise. Hearts were completely resurrected when Mercer got control of them in the early 80's...he was just the right kind of chairman/owner at the time they needed and they came up after 2 or three years yo-yoing up and down the leagues in 1983 a totally rejuvenated club and their crowds came back in big numbers and so began their 30 year domination of the Edinburgh Derby...give or take the odd blip when Hibs actually had a good team.

Yep was bad...but least I knew they were winning. I can remember turning the radio on for the New Year derby and turning to my mum (who grew up as a Jambo) and saying Hibs have beat Hearts 5-0...she didnt believe me...then I listened again and shouted...it's only half time :giggle:

I was kind of the same...my dad wouldn't take me to the derbies or the Old Firm games till I was about 9 or 10 because of the trouble at the games, so I missed out on the 7-0 game. Like yourself, I remember being down at my Grandma's that New Year and my dad coming through to the living room to tell us Hibs were winning 6-0. We went through and listened to the rest of the game on her old radio and heard the seventh goal being scored. Happy childhood memories.

Hearts missed a sitter before our first was scored, Donald Ford [whom I rated at the time] was the culprit IIRC.

Regarding the thread title, it stinks of a bit jealousy, not all dealings were corrupt, to my knowledge anyhow. I am old enough to appreciate past and present but looking back at a narrow window of Hibs domination over them gives me no satisfaction with our current plight. We should never forget our history but it adds very little to anything 2014

Honestly mate, I assure you I didn't post it because of jealousy. It came up on my YouTube-box/a/c (whatever it's called) and at first was going to ignore it until I realised that it was the 1st time I witnessed them beating us - it was like a self-abusing walk-down-memory-lane until the commentator came out with that statistic. Imho, many Hibees younger than me (54) have never known times when we've been the dominant derby-team. It also shows a time when both teams 'played within their means' - again, many younger Hibees (and Jambos) have never witnessed that !. Hopefully, this should happen from now on and - hopefully - show what might happen in the future.
