Surprised that there has not been a peep from Western governments nor the support on here from those that supported the Arab Spring . The total blackout of events on mainland China and the threats by the bureaucracy should come as no surprise. Neither should the fact that Milliband has said nowt nor Cameron at the ghastly Tory Party Conference, nor Salmond who body swerved the Dalai Lama on his visit to Scotland two years ago and was playing golf with the UK Chinese Ambassador the day after the Ryder Cup...ssshhh. Not fashionable I guess until a Tienanmen happens again.

Hats off to you G, you are spot on. I was sickened to read a guardian piece this morning that was a throwback to the dark old days of fellow travelling, where basically the writer was poo pooing these misguided youngsters and suggesting that basically they should be happy to be subsumed by China.

I desperately hope this will not end like it did in tianenman. You're right about the lack of outcry; perhaps that's what happens when China owns your national debt. The world is an increasingly volatile place and the west seems increasingly impotent within it.
