Full Time: Hibernian 1 v 0 PAOK

Less than impressed, however the words ' not good enough for Hibs, I've never said about anyone. I will wait and see what David Gray and his assistants think what potential, if any, is utilised by them. Rocky was the last fans 'unfavourite' on here. He improved and some of those who repeatedly attack the young guy had the decency to say they may have been a bit wrong, however at the mearest dip in form the biggest original critics piled in again.
If Jair under our new Management comes good there will be an even greater numbers slinking back to say something like 'just shows if played in the right formation, etc, etc' Time will tell.
Make no doubt about it, if things don't go Hibs way which nobody wants. The ones who were adamant that getting Gray in would be a step backwards will be the first on here to say 'told you all so'.
I've been going to see Hibs since my first ever game in 1958.
Like many others the greatest high and also relegation. In all these decades it's only last period that I can honestly say that I have been ashamed of Hibs supporters, to hear a very sizeable minority booing, yes booing a substitute wearing the Green entering the field of play.
So it's a new start for everyone, including Gray in my opinion.
As to boo boys, they can fuck off and follow the Merricks.

1958? I was about 5 or 6 years behind you, so between the two of us we must have witnessed a sizeable number of players that didn’t cut it in the green and white. Like you, I have always tended towards the positive or optimistic view of new players and I agree that, if Malky and Sir David think they have something, they should be given a chance. With such a high turnover of managers and coaches, there’s bound to be some that will come good and some that won’t. For my part, I’ve been critical of Rocky but he has a great physique and I’ll happily eat my words if/when he becomes the player that Johnson saw. As for Jair, he could be such an exciting player with the right coaching so my wheesht is being firmly hauded for now.

Must be a generational thing. We old farts are able to wait optimistically while the younger ones want instant success or assurances for such.Just as well they never received the presents I got for Christmas as a kid :coffee1:

Apart from Ray Wilkins ( and he deserved it) I have never booed a Hibs player and don't understand why anyone would. Unless of course the player simply wasn't trying, but I don't recall anybody trying to play bad .
However, don't let nostalgia cloud your recollection .
Benny and Joe T both received the treatment . As did Stuart Lovell, Brian Hamilton and more recently Colin Nish. That is just a few examples of players who have played very well for Hibs but have been booed at some point.
It's not right, but it's not a new thing.

Booing Hibs players is brain dead behaviour. Don’t understand why people that do it think it helps.

It's not right, but it's not a new thing.

It's definitely not a new thing.

There were times when Benny, Hamilton, and Torto's names were booed when the team sheets were read out over the tannoy before kick off so how they must have felt by the time they came out onto the pitch !

Read the Lawrie Reilly and Turnbull autobiographies years ago and both said they were the target of the boo boys when things weren't going well. I found it staggering that two of the greatest players in our greatest team got that abuse but both said they did.

And it's not a Hibs thing either. I've no allegiance to Man U but used to go a few times a year as my pal got tickets through his work and mind being at a game where the boy behind me slagged off Ryan Giggs's ability for the full 90 minutes. Felt like saying you should come up and watch some of our players.

Ross County fans the worst I've heard but that was years ago

The guys mentioned may not have been the Lionel Messis of their day but they were proud to wear our colours and would have run through brick walls for Hibs. I’d have 11 Joe Tortolanos or Ally Brazils ahead of a good many of the players who ‘graced’ the turf for Hibs in the past.

I was amazed torto put up with the barracking he got and still came back for more. Benny just got on with and saw it as a badge of honour. Kano got it for a wee while too. I can never understand booing your own player. It's not going to help them play better that's for sure.

Always dangerous to read too much into friendlies but a few positives and a few positions needing sorting IMHO. Keeper and two centre half's seemed to have gelled well and very hopeful there. Pretty solid and creative down the right too. Left hand side definitely needs sorting. Caught out a few times down the left. Obita to stay lback and new wide left midfielder needed. The elusive scotty Allan figure in centre mid and either a striker or a target man for vente to play off. Sort those positions and I reckon top six and maybe top four. Time will tell. Difference in the basics being done right so much better. Always amazes me when new managers come in they ignore setting up the team correctly to play their so called vision. Working hard and winning your battles is a pre requisite at every level of football then the quality can shine through. Quietly optimistic at the moment.👍

Anyone booing Benny or Torto deserves a kick in the stanes.

I remember sitting in the old East stand with BrianMac and Shandongreen, pretty sure we were next to Pat Nevin and his laddie when Brian Kerr got subbed off in a game and *&*^ started cheering. Out of order. He might have been hopeless [and at the risk of incurring the wrath of @GORDONSMITH7 ] not "Hibs class" but he didn't deserve that shit.

The idea of so-called Hibs fans booing a player wearing a Hibs jersey just doesn't compute with me.
It just doesn't make any sense. These guys are playing for Hibs...and have been selected by the manager, not themselves !

RE pre-season friendlies. No interest in them whatsoever. I've never yet seen a pre-season friendly which has had any bearing on how a season transpires. They are training sessions designed to get the players match-fit and to try out new formations.

I remember Torto and Benny getting it tight, but the only time I can remember Kano getting the boo treatment was on a flight to Athens (I think) because the eejit was singing “KANO, KANO, KANO……. KANO KANO”

He was no longer a Hibs player, so I felt it was ok to boo him.
