First Minister comments on the OF

How so? This is a serious question. Sectarianism has been entrenched in Scottish society for a hundred years or more; it didn't just spring up under Swinney's tenure.

Sectarianism is part and parcel of ruling class ideology in Scottish Capitalism.
Lol.

By and large the only sectarianism among the Scottish ruling class is the progressive sort. Fair enough, some argue that’s a descendant of Protestant prejudice, but if so it’s not too fond of its ancestors either.

Sure you’ll get small businessmen etc still part of the ludge but they’ll be almost unemployable elsewhere if they don’t keep their traps shut.

The engine room of Scottish sectarianism is rangers firstly, and to a lesser degree Celtic. The other lesson to take, given the changes in Britain is it’s a numbers game. It hasn’t survived in Edinburgh for example, because separate communities have not maintained. That’s because Hibs and the gunts are not the old firm, but also because there weren’t the numbers to enable it.

I’m not sure this weekends events in Glasgow are distinctively sectarian. Chasing each other about seems to be part of the ultra scene now and these are the two biggest lots. For sure the union bears will give it the King Billy shtick and the Green Brigade the Owen Jones shtick, but at the end of day we see the same from other teams albeit they don’t have the numbers for it to make such a spectacle.

If the arseholes on each side didn't have football as an outlet would Scottish society still be blighted with sectarianism?
Nope, because they are thick, ignorant, and nothing in their pea brains to associate with apart from being ahem “loyal” (apart from walking away and letting their club die).
Without the football and the masses they would be ingesting any narcotic they can shove into their scummy infested bodies with no-one, not even the media, to relate to them and they would simply have no outwardly outlay, hence they would have nothing in their lives meaningful of being thought of of anything remotely resembling being civilised, and hence again, they would be the gutter dwelling rats of a forgotten species.
I mean, what the actual fuck would they have without being an unloyal bigoted scumbag 👀

👀 their whole existence is solely based on sectarianism 🤷‍♂️

The clubs are absolutely saturated in it for sure. I’m just not sure what we saw at the weekend was any different to what happens at our own games or motherwell’s or whatever, except on a larger scale.

I think that’s fair comment. I don’t think it’s that sectarian any more, but there’s a really sinister element that I encounter through here that is pro rangers or Celtic and networked.

Oh I think they’re sectarian, but I also think they’re two derby rivals with huge supports. All I’m saying is judging by ultras elsewhere, if you could magic away the sectarian dimension, I’m not convinced you wouldn’t still have the likes of the weekend’s Argyll St invitational 400m

I think on Celtic’s side in particular the green brigade seem intent on not letting Celtic move on. I say in particular because the rangers support at large has no intention of doing so whereas I think Celtic could.

That said, it’s certainly different now; I’m not sure the GB are much more fond of Catholicism than the union bears, and I sometimes wonder if they dislike ‘Zionists’ more than they do Huns. Bhoys a bit more old school is my impression.
