I've not watched a really good film in ages.
Last 2 I thought that were worth the time was Spotlight, which was the Boston globe when they outed the Catholic Church
And Whiplash, jazz drummer going to an elite school learning under a tough teacher, JK Simmons plays the part brilliant I thought.

Once upon a time in Hollywood is on the list, recently been seeing Tarantino sticking up for his portrayal of Bruce Lee as an asshole.

I'm a big horror fan and I think the last decade or so has been the best for scary stuff in a long time. Its a style that tends to suit times of political and social upheaval.

From mainstream stuff like Get Out, Ready or Not, and A Quiet Place to more indie fare like It Follows, The Nightingale, Green Room, A Train to Busan, The Power and more, it's the most exciting and relevant genre going just now.

Watched Tomorrow War on Prime. Dunno if I liked it or not. Think the editing mucks it a bit.

Anyhoo, big beasties are here (well in 30yrs time), causing a tumult. So we need tae smash them. Ok if you've fuck all else tae wacth.

6/10

That's on my list. 6 underground is a decent thriller/shoot 'em up. A quiet place 1&2 are both okay.

Watched Churchill His Darkest Hour yesterday. Fine performance from Oldman, but a lot of fantasy scenes. If you believe that guff about the tram ride, you'll believe one of Johnson's lies.

2 films that I watched recently are , Nobody and the Conjuring 3 the devil made me do it. First film wasn't too bad, having watched the rest of the Conjuring universe films, I have to say I was a bit disappointed with this latest instalment.

I watched Around the World in 80 Days. It was on council telly yesterday afternoon. I find it inspirational 😆

Incidentally P&O have a cruise that does its best to replicate the route and time which might be fun. However I was on a sector of a P&O world cruise not so long ago and it full of self entitled little Englanders which spoilt it a bit!

I enjoyed Nobody. Plenty of gratuitous violence in it.

How does Conjuring 3 compare to the others? I'm a bit "meh" on The Conjuring films (my wife loves them). Annabelle: Creation is the only one I really liked.

Other half took me to the cinema to see it, she loves them, this one relies too much on jump scares, that you won't get outwith a cinema imo and you can sorta tell when they're coming.

It was watchable, the acting in fairness is pretty good, but it doesn't have the same pacing or layout of the other films.
Might be a new director or something, without looking it up, something felt different.

I don't know what makes this slightly disappointing tbh, maybe as the other 2 were based around houses and this one is isn't, and the director is different from the original films, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Did it portray his racist genocidal side or just make him out to be a hero rather than a war criminal?
It mentioned his past demeanours in passing. But it didn't dwell ,just as it didn't dwell on the Astor's, or Mosley, or too much on Edward and Mrs Simpson being big mates of Hitler. He was a bumbling pissed up idiot who got lucky because the rest of Parliament were no better. Remind you of someone?. Don't think it was just a coincidence it was shown on the eve of the Euros.

Watched Gravity again last night. I thought it was very good when I saw it in the cinema. I know people who area bit sniffy about it.

You watching Fear Street on Netflix?

I watched Official Secrets on Netflix last night - the story of the GCHQ whistle blower Katherine Gun before the invasion of Iraq. Not a big fan of Kiera Knightly but it’s pretty good - makes you angry about the illegality of the war.

I'm on 1978 now and I think the third one comes out tomorrow.

Yeah, I'll be watching part 3 tonight. I'll be interested to see how the hip style mixes with the period horror setting in this one.

What did you make of '78? I was really impressed with it, I thought it got that late 70's/early 80s slasher vibe spot on while fitting it into the overarching supernatural plot nicely.

I am. I was a bit mixed on 1994 but really enjoyed 1978.
Just watched the 1994 one, thought it wasn’t the best, just your typical American teen slasher, nothing new or inventive other than a bit of comic irony that the Scream films done better 20 odd years ago. Will probably give the 1978 one a go though!

Yeah it had all that 90's snarkiness but the characters were a lot less likeable than say Scream and you need at least a couple to root for so you care who gets offed and who doesn't.

I thought 78 did that a lot better. There were characters who were flawed but ultimately sympathetic so you are rooting for them to escape and also the usual ones that are so awful you're looking forward to their comeuppance.

Watched the 78 one last night, was much better. Will probably watch the last one tonight. Did you ever watch The Outsider series last year? If not check it out.
