Seems an empty promise these days, teams put so much emphasis on gaining a euro spot and here we are again with all scots clubs out before the season has even started...with the exception of septic who get another chance...(another thing the rich clubs use in their favour)

I hope the new revolution at Hibs sees us taking on continental or English styles of play because we need to get lads coming through with some real skill...and that goes for all the clubs in Scotland, we are just the laughing stock of euro football. The exception being the one good season septic had

It's not the skill thats the problem, Davy.

It is, and has been for many years now, the fact that in the qualifying rounds we come up against teams who are already well into their season. They look better because they're fitter and match sharp.

Agree with what you say, but I'm still opposed to summer football

God, you're good GM. How did you get that so quickly? :giggle:

What are your issues with summer football though?

The same as they have always been...although I totally understand and take on board the views of those who want to see it.

I'm a traditionalist...

Summer is a time for holidays, being with the family, lying in the sun, and taking a break from football. People in the UK go on holiday in the summer. There are plenty of other sports you can enjoy during this period. Advocates of summer football think that the football would be better if played in the summer and in nice weather...I don't think it would make a blind bit of difference. Clubs in continental Europe have a higher standard of football than ours because their players are better technically, they are better coached from a very young age, and they work harder at their game, nothing to do with the pitches being better and the sun shining.

Some people also think we would get bigger crowds...again I doubt this very much. As I said most fans go away in the summer for their holidays. Good football and exciting play will bring back crowds to Easter Road. If Hibs had a great team fans would be willing to go and watch them in all weathers as the song says. Improve the football...and let's just keep the nine month season as it is. We have had big crowds and great teams in the past playing at the time of year we do, we can do it again.

I do agree that it does affect our clubs ability to compete in Europe...that for me is the only sustainable argument for changing the entire football calander in this country.

Maybe not 100% the issue but the effect is significant, IMO also.

I think its fair to assume UEFA aren't going to change anything so the only way Scottish football can progress at club level is for the SFA and leagues to implement the change to summer football.
