Non kid trip somewhere not too far a drive from Edinburgh. Interesting scenery with maybe some wildlife to look at. Maybe close to a wee town with interesting shops to look at. Maybe with decent places for a nice lunch? Any ideas or suggestions? Cheers

Scone Palace - nice gardens and walking, adventure playground, picnic areas; never been inside the palace itself but that's there too obviously.

Anstruther for the sea and a chippy.

Bit further afield (about 90 mins to 2 hrs drive) and maybe best done as an overnighter; Lindisfarne is great, especially as the tide comes in and makes it an Island - Island's have a great atmosphere. Nice boozers and good pub grub as I remember.

I've been there and back in a day loads of times , Bamburgh is very nice too couple of great places for a bar lunch too . Best check the tide times if you're intending going across , no point arriving when the tide is in

North Berwick :)

Loving the ideas M. Think Anstruther is the one for tomorrow. Lindisfarne sounds great too and will definitely plan for that soon.

Cheers, K

Culross is not too far and a pleasant place to spend a day off. If you're thinking further afield Craster in Northumberland ticks all the boxes you asked about - great walk from the harbour to the castle along the coast and some fine wee pubs, bistros and cafes :thumbgrin
