Anybody able to tell me how much it is to rent a council house in Edinburgh?
I tried searching but it seems to be a secret. Just being curious as I know nobody's getting one.

Can you still buy council houses?
Don't know but I reckon my parents are about 120 grand better off.

Can You Still Buy a Council House in Scotland?
Put simply, no – council tenants in Scotland cannot purchase their home through Right to Buy or any similar government scheme. If you are currently a council or housing association tenant in Scotland, there is no form or process to buy your home directly from the council.

Bought mine for 10K in 1987 sold it 3 years later for 42K. 5 hooses later and been mortgage free for 7 years next month

Think you can still buy it if you have lived in it before the law changed
Bought mine in Livi for 16 grand sold it 3 yrs later for 50 its going now for about 140 grand

In my experience the number of homes available for shared ownership is virtually 0% of social housing stock but I’d like to see a confirmed number for that
My mate has shared ownership of his place, via a Housing Association. I wouldn't say it was a great deal.

I had a 50/50 Shared ownership Place for ten years or so. Got to the Stage where I could buy the other half and then rented it out for the First 5 years or so that I was in Switzerland.
Service charge for the communal grounds was only ever going up and up despite nothing actually getting better.
I got in early when they were pretty much all 50/50. some Shockers since then where you only „own“ about 20 or 30 prevent.

That said, I put down 50 quid as a deposit and walked away with 150k 15 years later when i sold it, would never have got that sort of money any other way.
