They may not represent the most extreme - some might say gauche - examples of their respective genres; nevertheless this fixture pits two competing world views against one another.

Personally, I have quite a high tolerance for chilli’s heat, but mustard triggers me like a humanities student confronted by some gentle clapping. A burning gub is one thing, a ring of fire another…but the sinus rinsing blast of mustard is not even the same game.

Others will be the reverse, happily indulging their perverse lust for mustard’s seed, but preferring to keep their ring piece intact.

As I say, these aren’t the most fiery in their respect camps, but they remain the tournament’s flag bearers for food as masochism.

Pick your poison.

The sinus rinsing blast comment reminds me that the ultimate sinus exploder Wasabi was left out of the group stages.
I recall an ex colleague one time (because it wouldn’t be ever again) asked for a taste of Wasabi from another person who was having it with some sushi during dinner. Before anyone could warn him, he took a heaped teaspoon of in one go. We thought we would need to get the paramedics. I think he lost about a gallon of bodily fluids out of his nose, eyes and mouth as he was convulsing on the floor nearly greetin’.
Funny as fuck after he recovered

FFS ketchup lost?! 😤 Might be considered “for the bairns” but it’s a classic!

Oh well in this instance I’ll go with the hot sauce 🌶️ The hotter the better as a lot of them urnae all that hot in the old Scoville scale! 🔥
