Just wondered if folk get fined for using it instead of the new crossing? I regularly see vehicles that are not public transport or a taxi chancing their luck. Curiosity...

Good question. I will ask my lawyer pal tonight if he comes out for a pint.

Nothing on the website to say what penalties an unauthorised driver might incur. Looks like it is an offence under some road traffic act.

I suspect it will come under the same laws as using bus lanes.

Folk thinking they'll get away with it because they don't see any cameras but they'll be there somewhere.

They are. There's ANPR cameras everywhere. Roads Policing patrol cars are fitted with them too. They're all directly linked to the DVLA computers and it flashes up instantly if a passing vehicle is taxed and insured. It's also the way drugs couriers are monitored before they're cornered. ANPR can also track the vehicle used by high risk missing persons so they can be located. Mobile signal triangulation is used for this too but is only accurate to a 5 mile radius

I asked my lawyer mate and he said that there will be a non-endorseable fine of about £100 [He doesn't know the actual amount just that there will be one but that £100 is his guess] if you get caught on the FRB in a vehicle that shouldn't be there.

Sounds about right, as said in comment above no official info to be found online about this so thought it might be worth asking. I shall have a chuckle at the potential fine the next time I see someone do it :giggle:. Just not worth the risk at all imo.
