Brian Wilson was a giant of popular music, and truly one of the all time greats.
His unique approach to pop composition and mastery of recording techniques made him something truly special, Definitely one of the most innovative and significant songwriters of the 20th century.
He had his well documented struggles with mental illness, and it's fair to say he had his ups and downs in life, but he leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
A hitmaker elevated and burdened by the label of genius, he transcended the breezy surf genre to create complex harmonies and intricate soundscapes in the studio.
Really upset to hear this. He was a musical icon and a genius in the same league as Dylan, Lennon & McCartney etc.
The definitive sound of summer. 20 golden greats definitely in my top 10 albums of all time (inc compilations). He wrote some truly beautiful music. Saw him in King Tut’s tent at a TITP and he must have played about 50 tracks, all the hits, was just a big sing-along.
Great tribute to Brian Wilson from my musical hero.
From one maestro to another.
Brian Wilson was the most musically inventive voice in all of pop, with an otherworldly ear for harmony. He was also the visionary leader of America’s greatest band, The Beach Boys. If there’d been no Beach Boys, there would have been no “Racing In The Street.” Listen to “Summer’s Gone” from The Beach Boys’ last album “That’s Why God Made The Radio” and weep. Farewell, Maestro. Nothing but love and a lovely lasting debt from all of us over here on E Street.
