Strange times we live in.
Surely, if as looks extremely likely Scotland will end up with both of these, it's independence on a plate. In a couple of hundred years ( if Boris and Donald haven't blown the place up) , historians will look back on these times , and wonder what Joe public was on , voting these two buffoons into power.
Boris is vile,I can't believe he is even an MP, he is like something from a comedy film.
He is a proven liar and a cheat, in interviews I have never seen him convincing , in fact quite the opposite. He treats any serious question as a joke , and any decent interviewer can lose him easily. But still , he is going to get the keys no doubt.
Oh well, surely the next time , we won't be the country that shat it again.

Don't feel you are suffering in isolation in GB or Scotland, mate.

You would not believe recent Dutch populist types either, I know I don't.

I feel humanity is going through some weird internet-hivemind-robot bizarreness as we adjust to the speed and depth of instant communication that technology is giving us.

Lot of bumps on the way, I fear. I just hope we get through without too much global own-foot shooting.

And despit Boris and Trump.

Mention of Boris and Trump is enough to make anyone drop an e.

I think Europe will be glad to see the back of us and when Boris takes control it’s quite conceivable that he actually can get a new deal just to ensure he fucks the fuck right off and takes us all with him.

We’re doomed i tells ye.

It's beyond all rational comprehension that Boris Johnson looks very likely to become the next Prime Minister. You really do have to question the sanity of those people down there electing this clown as Tory leader and foisting him on the rest of the UK as our new PM. The Tory party is controlled by right-wing little Englanders ably backed by the printed media and the are all in a collective state of denial over Brexit. They must be insane to think that the EU will even think about renegotiating the withdrawal agreement. The irish backstop is an essential part of that agreement to keep the peace in Northern Ireland and that will not be changed. They just can't get that fact into their tiny brains.

Scottish independence a near certainty now in my opinion.

The Tory party that are going to vote him in have a membership of about 150 thousand. That's about two Murryfield's worth. They are going to decide our future and will do everything in their power to keep Corbyn out. That's all that matters to them.As long as their hedge funds are ok, they don't give a flying fuck if Hitler was in charge.

It would appear Boris is the natural leader of the Tory party for the time we live in.
A proven liar, cheat, exhibitionist and all round arsehole means he fits the bill admirably.
The UK could, under Johnson, leave the EU with no deal, but I have a feeling this will have to go back to the people.
If parliament remains hamstrung, there is no other option.
Not sure if that would be a good thing for our Independence?

On a previous occasion Tories mounted 'Operation Arsehole' which was a plot to keep him from power. No doubt there will be whispering wee gatherings of Tories plotting again to try and stop him, but this time I can't see it happening.
I'm incredulous that this drooling buffoon will shortly be PM of the UK - it was bad enough Trump getting power, but we put that down to the stupidity of Americans. How on earth can we be facing a future with this dolt in charge?

Is it all a nightmare we will wake from soon?

Surely Independence is now a shoe-in?

All you lot saying that Independence is now a cert makes me feel I should toodle down to my local betting shop and chuck a hundred on there NOT being independence in the next twenty years.

Everything seems to go against the grain these days.

Only two problems with that:

1. I might no be around to collect if I win

2. There aren't any betting shops in Holland, local or not

Here's Ken Clarke:

The Conservative former chancellor and veteran pro-European Ken Clarke has accused Boris Johnson of not knowing what he wants, and said some Conservatives fear the idea of him being prime minister. In an interview he said:

"Some are extremely fearful about the idea that he becomes prime minister. This isn’t some TV-reality show ... We’re not choosing the winner of the Great Bake Off, we’re talking about government and policies."

The father of the house, who supported Rory Stewart in the leadership vote today, said that Johnson muddles through, often forgetting what he believes in from one day to the next.

"He doesn’t have any policies, certainly none that are consistent from day to day in the way he puts them. I don’t actually think he knows what he would do to get us out of the Brexit crisis. He doesn’t always say the same thing, partly because he doesn’t always remember what he said the day before. He tends to work day to day and just get his way through it - he’s not a man who’s interested in detail."
And this from Max Hastings, somebody who knows Johnson well:

If the day ever comes that Boris Johnson becomes tenant of Downing Street, I shall be among those packing my bags for a new life in Buenos Aires or suchlike, because it means that Britain has abandoned its last pretensions to be a serious country.

[...]

Most politicians are ambitious and ruthless, but Boris is a gold medal egomaniac. I would not trust him with my wife nor – from painful experience – my wallet. It is unnecessary to take any moral view about his almost crazed infidelities, but it is hard to believe that any man so conspicuously incapable of controlling his own libido is fit to be trusted with controlling the country.

His chaotic public persona is not an act – he is, indeed, manically disorganised about everything except his own image management. He is also a far more ruthless, and frankly nastier, figure than the public appreciates.

When one of his many sexual affairs was exposed and much trumpeted in the headlines, he telephoned a friend of mine who was then running one of Britain's largest media organisations. "It's utterly disgraceful what your reporters are doing on-screen about my private life," spluttered Boris. "It's time you realised that I know all about your private life. If your organisation goes on reporting my affairs like this, you'll be reading all about yours in the Spectator [the magazine he then edited]."

My friend responded: "Stop a minute, Boris, and think about what you just said. There is a word for it, and it is not a pretty one – 'blackmail'." Johnson waffled away, muttering that he had never really meant it. But he is much given to making threats, bearing grudges and behaving with malice aforethought.

I would not take Boris's word about whether it is Monday or Tuesday. I feel a twinge of regret for speaking so harshly, because I am as susceptible as most of the British people to Johnson's brilliant, warm, funny public persona.
And, remember, that's from somebody who likes him.

It's absolutely astonishing that this imbecile is going to be PM. I'd like to think that Independence can now be ushered in, but after my experiences on the campaign trail last time, I remain sceptical. There's so many more parochial Uncle Toms in this country, who will quietly go back to the ballot box and vote No, simply because "it's always been this way". If the ascendance of this odious, obfuscating, entitled bucket of pish to the highest office in the UK is not enough to convince folk that we should go our own way, then I'm afraid that nothing ever will.

Here's hoping, but!

Not sure about a shoe in if brexit goes back to the people, for the reason that i reckon remain would win by a fair bit, thus leaving the unionists with an excuse to say no again.
I would be more convinced of Independence should we leave with no deal.

It's the helplessness of the whole situation I find infuriating. Boris as PM. The political world has been broken for some time, but if Boris, a liar, racist and a cheat gets the gig, it's game over for the average punter.
Question is, what can we do about it?

Really? Got a link? I hardly ever hit Amsterdam.

I thought they were still deliberating about liberalising online betting here.

You only ever see casinos or lottery outlets (usually newsagents) in the real world.
