Steve Cropper, the legendary guitarist with Booker T and the MGs, has died at the age of 84.

Probably partly responsible for one of THE most iconic theme tunes ever. Green Onions, played on the BBC cricket programmes.

I played cricket.

At the end of the season my club would go on tour. One year we went to Scarborough, venue for one of the more important cricket festivals in England. We went the week after 😆

I was an opening batsman and up for a bit of 😁

As the two captains walked out to toss the coin me and my fellow opening batsman had acquired a getto blaster and blasted out Green Onions from behind a wee hut.

The other players, and crowd, were bewildered.

But more tour japs were to follow.

Me and my partner in crime disappeared into the changing rooms to get ready to go into bat. We took longer than usual and the crowd was becoming restless and then we appeared ...

Out we came wearing spotless cricket gear, leg pads, gloves and all that, but we were also wearing kilts and see you Jimmy hats. Everyone roared with laughter and insisted we played in that set up!

A great day was had by all as the Scots took a famous cricket win in Yorkshire.

But more tour japs were to follow - maybe another day!

Steve ‘The Colonel’ Cropper. Great musician. Saw him live as part of The Blues Brothers Band. Not many of them left now

That's very sad. Along with Donald 'Duck' Dunn, probably the most influential white man in soul. Part of the Stax house band on so many great recordings.

It was their splendid Soul Limbo that was played as the introduction to BBC cricket I think @Jack
I'd listen to it and then hastily turn over to another channel, any channel!
