Just back, so to speak, and some of my faves tonight brought it to mind;

Lager category: Moretti
IPA category (seems omnipresent): Neck Oil
Other beer category: Jarl (actually Bluebird ale but not available here)

Let's have it and dont be bound by my pishy categorisation

I would go Moretti just now. Peronni is hit or miss on draft. More often miss though.

I got the 10 cans of Italian craft beer from the beer52 webpage.

Have to say all 10 were pony. Chocolate in a beer!!!!!

I'm also a Moretti fan, although I quite like Peroni too.
I also like Madri.

I'm not daft enough to think it's Spanish rather than Coors, but obviously I fall for the advertising.

Any lager ending in "i" is obviously Italian though.
:popcorn3:

Lager is the beer I drink the most of and I prefer Mexican lager. Pacifico is my favorite lager but it is a little bit more expensive than most so I tend to buy it only when on sale. But it does have a bold taste which cannot be said for most of the other Mexican lagers which need a wedge of lime added. Corona is practically tasteless without a wedge of lime but goes down a treat on a hot sunny day of which there are many in SoCal. Another great imported lager is Amstel Light.

IPA I drink now and again but only when on sale. Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is very nice but I can only drink two, three maybe four bottles.

Draft lager, it’s Moretti for me.

Draft proper beer is Deuchars IPA

Who can turn down a proper pint of black gold? Guinness.
Deuchars a rare find these days, and a completely different animal to the 101 IPAs now around. Its magic.

Doubt I'll ever enjoy a pint more than a cold Guinness, but as a poor pensioner it's a rare treat nowadays.
Normally bottles of Leo or San Mig at 1/4 the price.

After a recent trip to Prague I can't see past Czech lager anymore. Pilsner Urquell is the top boy, but it's still pretty rare to see on draught in Scotland. Budvar, Pravha or Staropramen will do though.

IPA tastes likes something you'd wash dishes with but I do enjoy a dark ale from time to time. No go to, but I'll try whatever bizarrely named concoction is on offer if that's the mood I'm in.

And yeah - Guinness is always a winner if the rest of the pubs line-up is of the Carling/Carlsberg variety of fizzy piss.

That's quite a good description of contemporary IPAs. :lauff:

These central European lagers a bit too rich for my blood though.

Lager: Paolozzi. Used to like Menabrea and Moretti but I'm not paying premium prices for 'imported' beer that's brewed in some industrial estate in Slough.
Curious Lager from Majestic is top notch but never seen it on draft.
IPA: Neck Oil. Big fan of the Fyne Ale range too.
Others: Bavarian Weißbier. Paulaner, Erdinger etc.

Standard 5% pilsener from Heineken to cheap German supermarket versions, fine for a chilled quick can of Duff in the garden ir outside.

But of an evening, a leisurely-imbibed Duvel is still my no.1. Even tho it is 8.5% you just have to adjust your drinking speed accordingly. Which I sometimes even manage to do.

IPA beers I see now in the 'craft' pubs and as THB said, they are a bit of a lottery. If you find a local one you like, stick with it.

But when I look back on my life of beer drinking, my biggest regret is that I didn't end up in Belgium rather than NL.

Not keen on canned Guiness so I buy Murphies for home consumption. Very cold it slides down a treat. I find with IPA that as the market becomes more flooded with craft beer it seems that almost everything gets labelled as IPA, which is beginning to get even decent IPA a poor press.

Bit of a lager snob/connoisseur. Can't see past the Munich big 6 (Augustiner, Hacker-Pschorr, Hofbräu, Löwenbräu, Paulaner, and Spaten). Rare to see any of them on draft in Scotland although they are starting to appear more frequently especially Paulaner. Brewhemia on Market Street often has a couple of them on draft. Bavaria Brauhaus in Glasgow is amazing it has the lot as well as some other beauties such as Stiegl and Bitburger,

Lager category: Augustiner Helles - the 🐐
IPA category (seems omnipresent): Goose Island IPA
Other beer category: Brewdog Jet Black Heart or failing that Guinness

Not much of a fan of lager, best ales for me are Deuchars, Jarl, Whiteout (local brew from Cromarty). I do like a Guinness every now and again but for me that's more of a autumn winter pint.....

I won't touch anything from Brewdog. Tried some of their beers when they first came out and thought they were decent but they are a scummy company and their CEO is a sex pest.

I’m like you but getting those Munich brews in this country is nigh on impossible. Especially out here in the sticks. I go for Erdinger, Warsteiner or Fürstenberg but at £2 a bottle it’s not cheap. If I’m out for a meal or just a pub I drink Guinness

I'm partial to trying different ales but a lot of the craft beers are bowf.

My SiL gave me a case of sour beers to try a year or so back.

Absolutely disgusting they were.

Yeah, he's a shit. It's rare I visit Brewdog TBF, used to always go to the one near the station in Aberdeen for a couple of pints and a burger after finishing an offshore stint but I think they're closing that one down. I noticed recently the pub at Waverley Station is now a Brewdog 🙄

One year I went to the Munich beer festival and it was fantastic. All the big brewers that Kev mentioned had tents.

Pauliner is a beer I'd buy if I seen it in a shop.

They sell it at the Edinburgh Christmas market. £5 for a half litre in a plastic tumbler. Fuckin shysters

That whole Christmas market should be shut down because anytime I've been it's grossly overpriced and tatty

Not drank lager in about 8 years, but our all inc hotel first sell it… so been on the Green gin cocktails and Kilimanjaro lager which is surprisingly ok, maybe because it’s free 🤣🤣
Savanna cider in my room fridge and some places we go on trips, nice.
But my fav cider on draughty is Somersby, but rarely see it.
Aspall is nice

You getting through the scran and the drink then?

I have never drank one modern IPA that tastes remotely like Deuchars IPA.

To quote my Danish pal last week, they all taste like Fox Pish ( I am lead to believe).

I like Mahou. When they bring out Amstel, I send it back.

Each to their own I guess, I find it's far too dry for the climate its sold in. It's actively unpleasant after the first few sips.

Spanish lager in general is a bit meh for me mind you.

I grew an appreciation for Tennents as a standard lager after living in England for a few years. You do miss it as the safe option when it's not there and Carling is in its place.
Agreed. It's definitely the best of the standard lower % pints you get in pubs. Pisses all over the likes of Carling, Carlsberg (the UK-brewed pish) and Fosters 🤢

Carling is vile. But one of the worst lagers ever is Skol. It's honking.

I only ever knew one person who ordered it when the Jolly sold the stuff.

Any Grey Horse drinkers? Do you mind when they got rid of Tenants and put in McEwans?

There was an en-masse move up to the Avon and The Wells of Weary.

They got the message and put tenants back in 😁

Estrella Galicia is one of the best lagers I have drank, even keep a case here. Funny how peoples tastes can be so different.

I'm no a big fan of Millers or Budweiser either I find Millers a bit sweet.
