Quality news. He's got a much better shout than a good few of the potential democrat candidates that have announced, too many reek of the same vacuous narcissism as the seven blairite chancers yesterday.

Has there ever been a socialist in the White House?

He'll be almost 80 if/when he becomes President. Oldest by a long waaaaay.

Who is likely to be Vice President and see out the term?

Not that I know of, but if you read up on it Franklin D Roosevelt might be the closest so far. I understand he had plans for a socialist-type economy for after the war but then he died…..

Yes I agree with that. He led America out of the Great Depression and at that time socialist policies would’ve been very popular with voters.
It’s quite strange that a country like America hasn’t really had a proper left wing president. The whole republican v democratic thing seems to me to be an undemocratic duopoly that Americans seem to accept. Surely there’s loads of people that don’t support either sides policies. The fact that in order to run for president requires you to have first secured millions says a lot about the political system over there.

I love the fact he's seen as some radical lefty in the States. His three main policies are an NHS, a living wage and free higher education. He'd be centerist Labour over here.

Get your gun Cleetus , the commies are taking over!

Latest - Sanders supporters raise $6m for his campaign in 24 hours, not a corporate donor in site.....

Agree he has a better shout than most the democrat candidates ( he is not a democrat) but narcissist is definitely a word that could easily be applied to Bernie as well.

No danger he gets elected, far too old. Doubt he'll get the nomination anyway.
