Keeping on the theme of music, maybe not a song for the macho guys here, but what is you fav ballads?

1, Roberta flack the first time ever I saw your face
2. Wishing on a star Rose Royce
3. Odyssey If your looking for a way out

also every ballad on Bat out of Hell

Too many to mention, so I am not going to try to list a top 3.

Heaven can wait from Bat out of Hell is pretty damn magnificent though.

Dont know if any of my choices can be called ballads but....

The Weakness in Me. Joan Armatrading.

Alison. Elvis Costello.

Wild Horses. Mick, Keef, Charlie, Bill and Mick.

They definitely are ballads. There are a couple of meanings, first is a story or narrative running through song, 2nd meaning is a slow sentimental or romantic song.
Of the three I had only heard Alison, but now have listened to other two and they are very good. Would also mention Angie from the Stones as also very worthy of mention

  1. Jar of Hearts- Christina Perri
  2. Always On My Mind- Willie Nelson
  3. How Long Will I Love You- Ellie Goulding

Dinnae get your macho guys reference. I am sure that the hardline Communist Party of Great Britain and avowed Stalinist who wrote your first choice would fit into that stereotype.

Coulda had all 3 by this guy.
The one you mention, plus, From Russia with Love, and my favourite MM one which is On Days Like These.
Great voice.

Amigo I agree he was quality. I was going to put this one up, which is brilliant and better than the ones mentioned but upsets me to this day.Softy. When I was 10 my mum who is now in her late 80's had a pal who took her own life leaving a bairn of a similar age are me. I never knew either but my ma would play this record in her memory 55 years ago.
I have never discussed the episode since then. The words say it all. Eyes welling up listening now.

It could apply to what many of us have experienced in the loss of loved ones.

was a joke based on my sons always laughing at me for listening to cheesy love songs

I don’t think I have a favourite but the lyrics from a country song which I don’t know the artist or the name of always stuck with me
?She got the goldmine I got the shaft
The judge split it all down the middle but then he gave her the better half
Well it sounds kinda funny but it hurts too much to laugh
She got the goldmine....and I got the shaft!?
Became very poignant when I got divorced.

Maybe should start a thread on favourite lyrics?

I read the first line as a cute sexual euphemism.
