Thought France were a bit lucky there.

On to the next game.

Iceland have 23 players in the squad to play Messi and 10 others. Only 1 Iceland player doesn't have a surname ending 'son' and he's on the bench. :smilie-auslachen: Mon the Sons!

I've never been to Iceland but my mother has!

Time for Messi to respond to Ronaldo.

Argentina have more tools than Portugal, but I still think neither will win a work DC cup.

Ronaldo will overtake Klose for total world cup goals this tournament I think eh?

Performance to go with it.
Another excellent performance from Iceland though. Very well drilled and the national pride is real.
Makes you realise what a state our own national game is in. Our young people aren't active enough, get too easily distracted by poor health choices, perhaps lack resilience. Our best athletes in recent times have been in middle class individual sports. Hoy, Murray and Co are genuine world class legends in their sports. It's some time since we could say that about our footballers.

So far we know Portugal or Spain won’t win and France were a huge disappointment but got a result. Same for Argentina, but with a point to show.

Iceland showing the new world of getting points with 20% possession. I seem to remember Neil was good at that.

In the Messi Vs Ronaldo competition Ronaldo deserves to be more than one up after one game!

a bit of a stretch to believe germany can win now either.

Russia looked most impressive of the teams so far perhaps

Host ranking usually get a little bit skewed because they have no competitive games to play in the run up to the competition. Usually meaningless friendlies and a gazillion different players getting called up to see what's what.

I actually think Spain have looked the best so far; only got a draw, but that was after an uncharacteristic howler from De Gea, a lost penalty, and a wonder goal. They won't be playing Ronaldo in every game, and they seem to have lost a bit of the "pass the ball to death for no reason" attitude that got in the way of results.

Croatia also looked very solid, but against modest opposition.

The Germans were doomed as soon as I stuck a tenner on them.

I quite fancy Spain now - so that's another shock result on the cards....................................

Not so sure. Drawing your first game isn't ideal, but it doesn't mean you'll not win the tournament either. Put Brazil in that bracket now as well.

Think the winner will come from Spain/Germany/France, would be tremendous if a new winner could be found, Mexico maybe?

Impressed with the south Korean goalie.
Good first half against Sweden.

Germany were poor last night, khedira was non existent in midfield. Good tournament for the smaller teams so far.

Spain probably the best on show so far but with their own weaknesses.

After almost one full round, no real standout side to go all the way.

He's been excellent so far but Sweden really should be a couple up by now especially as I've gor 4-1 in the pub predictor..
