What Choons Yi Listening To?

And another

Not so good that one.
Sounds like karaoke.

Was ACDC a leader or follower with formulaic soft rock music in a camp stylie? Gotta admit I never felt the urgr to play air guitar or let my hair descend into a greasy mullet. ;))
I can only speak about AC/DC until Bon Scott died but you are well wide of the mark with your style assessment.
In the time time they were an unsubtle heavy rock band with the main focus on singer Bon Scott gruff vocals and Gibson SG toting Angus Young in his trademark school uniform. By the time Scott died I was 19 and had grown out of them although anytime I saw them on TV their schtick seem similar to the Bon Scott days.

I have to say I enjoyed very much the videos posted by @Dub. Watched them a couple of times

If I have time later I’ll watch them again with the sound on.

Johnson was the singer in an average 70's rock band called Geordie. I was surprised how well it worked out for him but I never listened to them after Scott died. I was 19 and had cut my teeth on rock and punk and was ready to move on to something more arty and celebral.

I liked the 1st cover Dub posted but the 2nd vocal doesn't mesh on the 2nd.

I didn’t.

The guitar riff is the star.

Nah, I saw that and watched the "Back in Black" cover right through and liked the cover and the girl.

It's a decent cover but if you want to hear the best Bon DC covers...
German lady with a great band.

As a teenager I couldn't believe he got the gig

Covers bands are a massive growth area. Some of the ones that look to replicate the sound are amazing. The ones going more for the look tend to be far less impressive.

AC/DC one of he greatest rock and roll bands ever as far as I am concerned.
Back in Black is a rock classic album.

Queen were a very Marmite band for me. Couldn't stand some songs, loved others. This is brilliant...

This popped up while watching my music dvd’s and I thought it could apply to us last year . We seem to be on the right track 😜

That's a nice cheery start to the day...makes Leonard Cohen sound like The Cheeky Girls...😉

I think Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Lou Reed (Berlin period) covering Gilbert O'Sullivan's Alone Again Naturally would have been a sure fire hit.

You listened to anything by The Pernice Brothers?

I used to quite like them until someone pointed out to me, most of their hits are just novelty songs with a decent singer and some good guitar work.

Some of the videos on this site are brilliant. Some excellent buskers out there....

Playing For Change (PFC) was founded in 2002 by Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke.
Mark Johnson was walking in Santa Monica, California, when he heard the voice of Roger Ridley (deceased in 2005) singing "Stand By Me"; it was this experience that sent Playing For Change on its mission to connect the world through music.

Travelling the world with a small film and recording team, producers Johnson and Enzo Buono developed a mobile recording studio (originally powered by golf cart batteries) for recording and filming musicians live outdoors, and progressively editing all the separate artists, blending all into one performance as PFC travelled from artist to artist, country to country.

Lou Reed covering alone again! Never knew this existed....have to give it a listen. Thanks

The previous bands apart from Lou just not for me. Just shows how tastes differ as I'm not into Berlin at all whereas I love NY, Coney Island Baby, Blue Mask, Transformer. Saw Lou many times, always had a top top band.

Love Lou Reed / VU
Have you seen the new documentary about the Velvets?

Yes, saw a few docs over the years. Privileged to see them at the Playhouse in 92 or 93 without Googling, mesmerising.

Love Lou Reed / VU
There's a new album being released of very early VU demos from May 1965.

The clip below has the earliest known version of I'm Waiting For The Man.

My favourite Lou Reed solo album is Berlin.

I read a biography about him and it appears he was a very difficult person.

I mind reading that the West Coast had peace and love hippies.

But the East Coast had constant hard drug references.

The VU spat with Frank Zappa is quite comical though.

Lou Reed A Life is a fantastic book.
Yes he seemed to be a 'proper character' a chameleon as described many times.
The VU were so inspirational and so out there for the time - look at the themes on the debut. Have lots of live bootlegs of theirs, some amazing stuff.

Suzanne Vega sings Leonard Cohen

The friction between Reed and Cale must have been a factor in the music.

Some of John Cales stuff is good as well.
