Elections. Brexits. Managers.
Lighten the mood a little.

What did you watch/ listen to as a youngster.
I count myself fortunate to have had a dad who listened to the Goons, Hancock, Round the Horne and a few more.
Watched The Marx Brothers, Laurel & Hardy etc.
They helped give me my sense of humour. Especially the Goons.

What/ who gave you your laughs as a kid.

Loved L&H
Jerry lewis.
Abbot and Costello....
Cartoon was always the road runner....meep meep ?

I watched sitcoms much earlier than I was probably supposed to in the 80s/early 90s thanks to my dad being pretty lax about it. Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Bottom and Rab C Nesbitt informed my vocabulary at primary school. Probably the reason I was cheeky smart arse as a kid because I got (or thought I got) grown up jokes.

Oddly enough the more family friendly stuff that was on at the time (Russ Abbott, Little and Large, Bobby Davro, Allo Allo and the like) seemed like total pish even to my young ears/eyes.

Laurel & Hardy, High Chaparral, Bonanza, Peyton Place, Land of the Giants, Lost in Space Dads fav was also the Goons on radio. First on list for me. Never had a colour TV till well after the posh dudes.

Best though was throwing a tantrum to stay up late to watch Hibs away to Airdrie. Think we scored five that night. Older sisters sent to bed lol moaning like feck. Mother" he loves his HIBEES" ha ha.

We scored 6 that night.
it was 2-0 to them and then Turnbulls Tornadoes destroyed them.
One of John Brownlie‘s best games

I remember, did John Hazel score that night. I really would walk 500 miles to see that team.

I was going to see Cabaret two night ago,and went to that cafe next to the Festival Theatre (think it's called the City Cafe or something) ordered my Fish and Chips and DietCoke, glanced across the tables and sitting in the corner was Gregor Fisher.I sat there trying not to laugh thinking of Rab C Nesbit all the way through my meal.Think he noticed.

Haaawww……………… Moaty Doll...………..

I think we got our first telly just after the '66 world cup.We argue with mum that we had it before then, she insists that we didn't.In which case we saw stuff at Granma and Grandads. We listened to far more radio back then and I think there was the Goons and Kenneth Williams and stuff like that.I think Hancock was on?Anyway the telly would have been early Dr Who,High Chapparal,Adam Adamant,Simon Dee,Dickson of Dock Green, then for laughs Laural and Hardy,Buster Keaton, and Charlie Chaplin and the Keystone Cops and that guy with the boss eyes? And Hannah Barbbera and Loony Tunes. Then we were allowed to stay up for the moon landing then Match of the Day then the Colditz Story, then Mony Python. Then during the holidays there was the Flashing Blade,Belle and Sebastion,The Singing Ringing Tree, and what's it's name?(Guy stuck on a deserted island).
Also big shout out for Watch with Mother-Tales of the Riverbank,AndyPandy,Trumpton,Mary Mungo and Midge and Sam's Cafe, then Play School,Blue Peter and Take Art.Rentaghost!Crackerjack.

I met him on a flight once. He is a proper luvvie with theatre school accent, not what you'd expect at all.

My gran got a colour telly way before us. Spent many a weekend at Dalmeny , Friday night's was the Virginian then the show jumping. Saturday morning cartoons then football focus and saint and greavsie. Night time was sportscene, Hibs in colour, ya dancer. Remember watching Joe Harper score a winner at Ibrox, I was hooked.

On the buses, Sunday night after my bath!!!

Young ones, fawlty towers & some mothers do have them.

How could anybody watch Swap Shop when Sally James was on the other side.

By that time I think there was the remote. You could flick between the two.If somebody like Weller was on swap shop, you watched that, then when it went to Cheggers you flicked over.

On the wireless Hancock, Goons, Round the Horne, The Clitheroe Kid, Pick of the Pops.

Stingray, Torchy the Battery Boy, Four Feather Falls, Whako, Billy Bunter, Fireball XL5,

The Singing Ringing Tree (Scarey even after decades )

The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe

Think he was suggesting why , rather than could you watch Swap Shop , when Sally James was on the other side !

I had forgotten the epic Robinson Crusoe. A great story.

I met her once, we were on a train from London to Brighton for a quiz show which she was hosting and I was taking part. She was really nice but an awful lot of makeup.

The Banana Splits was a Saturday morning must.

Her face wasn't her most memorable features

I have both the Banana Splits and the Flashing Blade on DVD, superb.

Pipkins and the Clangers were pretty decent.

I also liked Michael Bentine’s Potty Time but struggled to follow the plot at times.

Can’t believe no ones mentioned Tom and Jerry.

My favourite!

We were talking about it tonight in one of ma locals. Apparently the episodes we knew and loved, at least the ones with the black housemaid, are now considered racist.

The Banana Splits was a Saturday morning must.
We only had cornflakes.

If it's any consolation, I've been going around singing the chorus since I posted!

Looked him up.Apperently he wasn't that nice a guy and lacked a sense of humour which seems astonishing.More credit should have gone to Hannah and Barrbera.

Mental, but I like it.
You wouldn't get the young team singing
H.I.B.... They can't spell. I blame predictive texting.

Now I've got the theme tune stuck in my head
Sing it loud, sing it proud. H.I.B. E.R.N.....

Bet you can't sleep tonight because of that ? :gigglle:
