Your Views – Falkirk 1-3 Hibernian

Derek Riordan’s double ensured John Hughes’ return to Falkirk was a happy one as Hibernian came from behind for the second straight week to win 3-1 and maintain their 100% start to the season.
Riordan struck twice after the break – his second a stunning free-kick – after Falkirk had dominated the first half.
On-loan Liverpool winger Ryan Flynn put them ahead but the outstanding Sol Bamba levelled against the run of play shortly before half-time.
The home side took a deserved lead in the 25th minute when Flynn’s right-foot finish from the corner of the box found its way through a crowd of players and past Yves Ma-Kalambay, but Bamba levelled when he powered home a header from John Rankin`s wicked corner.
Hibs went ahead when they won a 57th-minute free-kick, which was fizzed in from the right wing by Rankin and turned in at the near post by Riordan.
And the visitors sealed the victory 10 minutes from time when Riordan stepped up to curl a stunning free-kick past Robert Olejnik.

“I thought it was a scrappy performance from Hibs today, nobody really stood out. But you know what they say: the sign of a good team is getting a win when you’re not playing well.”

“I thought it was going to be one of those days. I thought we started alright but then faded really badly and actually deserved to be a goal down. We scored at a really good time with only a few minutes left till half-time.”

“Second half, totally different story, we had all the posession and I thought it was a matter of time until we got our goal, and then the third was brilliant just to put it to bed.”

“We need to pick it up big time next week though for Celtic, can’t be anywhere near as bad or sloppy as the first half.”

“One worry might be the number of yellow cards, they’ll begin to rack up and we don’t need 6 bookings per game. ”

“Hibs started really poorly today vs Falkirk. I personally wouldn’t have started Stokes, considering he wouldn’t quite have been up to scratch or given much of a chance to gel with the team yet. Especially considering that Wotherspoon had to sacrifice his place in the team.”

“The 4-3-3 lacked width, which didn’t suit our attacking side as Falkirk were tight through the middle, and we had to play through them in effectiveness. Should the two full backs be more offensive, only then will the 4-3-3 be effective.”

“Still, with three more points in the table after a poor showing, then we should take encouragement from that alone.”

“We still need to strengthen the midline, many long balls from Bamba today, waiting for zouma to be back, even I dont see it so soon because of fasting.”

“Good improvement in defense and the front.”

TickTock
“No surprises in the starting 11 aside from the inclusion of Stokes, whom I assumed wouldn’t even make the bench. But if Yogi thinks he’s fit enough to start then that’s good enough for me. Bamba seems to be making the CB position his own, aside from a few shaky moments where we could have been sent off, he was MOTM.”

“First half performance was pretty ropey, a lot of high balls and not much coherent passing as we’d expect. Shots from Stokes and a couple of promising attacks were a few highlights. Disappointing goal to lose, but not much Ma-Kalamby could have done as DVZ was skinned a beast and had no-one covering him. Shot was right in the bottom corner. Equaliser came from an unexpected source, but a welcome one none the less. As others have pointed out, our set pieces were painfully predictable the last few seasons with Jones in the starting 11, so to see someone else scoring from the corner was quite pleasing. Thought the referee was quite pedantic booking Bamba for leaving the field of play, not as if he was commiting some sort of heinous crime, merely celebrating a goal with his manager.”

“Second half was better, but not spectacular. We got more of the ball and started passing a bit more. Scary moment with Bamba lashing out at Finnigan, silly reaction that he could have been booked for. Was on thin ice for a little after that and clattered into somebody else, and could easily have been shown a card, but thankfully the referee kept his cards in his pocket on this occasion. Great poachers goal from Deek, and an excellent free kick from Rankin to set it up. At times I forgot he was playing, but time and time again he shows us why he’s a valuable asset to the team, a point he proved with a peach of a free kick to make it 3-1 and put the game beyond Falkirk.”

“Was quite refreshing to see Hibs doing what we haven’t done in a while: grinding out a victory, and an emphatic one at that. Winning 3-1 away from home is no mean feat.”

“Craig Burley is a c**ksocket.” Dunc89 agreed.

“A hard earned 3 points in my opinion! Getting a result when your nowhere near your potential is the making of a decent team. Celtic, Rangers, hey even Man Utd and Chelsea do it week in week out! The positive signs are there. Good times me thinks! GGTTH.”

Madkink
“It goes to show the change in attitude within the team. We didn’t play well yet still managed to win. Today also showed we still need a bit off work in areas but there is a good foundation to build upon.”

“A great result, an average game off football.”

Wee Don
“I thought it was a Mixu like formation and for much of the game looked like a performance from last season. The result was where the comparisons with last season end. We have a winning mentality now, which is good. I am a bit worried about next week if we play with three up front.”

Forzahibs
“I’d pair Stokes with Benji , i reckon they’d be great together. Nish was shown today for the player he is.”

“The team today didn’t play great but they managed to grind out the result, something that wouldn’t have happened last season! We badly lacked width, playing 3 in a tight midfield means we need to have a creative player like Zemmama, Galbraith or young Wotherspoon playing just to give us that little bit extra. A couple of the bookings handed out today i felt were harsh and these may cost us in future matches when the suspensions start kicking in. We got the 3 points today and that is all that really matters, now we have next weekend to look forward to!”
