Get the sound system sorted. Watching the Bayern Munich game tonight their system is superb. The only improvements we have made it is put speakers in the stairs in the West Stand. Hopefully when the new stand is built there will be a total upgrade.

    1) yes.

    2) for starters I would stop the music at the start of the game and the inane ramoblings of the stadium announcer. Let the fans create the atmosphere themselves. No one is arsed starting a song because the tunes are blaring. Gash.

    Agree with that...

I've said before that we should be perhaps think about getting the Proclaimers to re-record some well known Hibs songs to be played before matches at ER. I would also hope that they could maybe write some new ones themselves. Nothing too OTT or over sentimental, just some rousing Hibs anthems that the fans could catch on to. Hard hat on here, but I don't think Hibs have that many decent songs which get the crowd going. I like SOL, but we need more upbeat songs to get the atmosphere going.

If the Hibs fans are the orhestra then Chris Hogg must be the conductor..
If the orchestra is not performing then we need a new conductor!

Agree with that, after Ribery scored the announcer was starting chants, at one point he was going "FRANCK" to which the crowd shouted "RIBERY" also said some German stuff to which the crowd replied in German, sadly I don't speak German so I don't know what they were saying

A good thing that could be done at Easter Road during a match, announcer shouts "IAN" to which we reply "MURRAY!" & so on & so forth with other players. Also have him shout "WE ARE.." & we carry on the song
There's one way to find out if a man is honest - ask him. If he says, "Yes," you know he is a crook.

This must surely be one of the biggest reasons for the decline of atmosphere at football matches

Spot on. There's nothing like a few beers to get yer vocals working. Rugby sorts get it. If this was the USA there would be a class action raised against discrimination.

I said that on my form.

I also suggested that there should be a 'free seating area' within the west stand, which could include season tickets?

English football is much more associated with violence and a hooligan culture but at English games you can enjoy a pint in your plastic tumbler...

Clubs like ours are paying a heavy price because of a few knobs decided to have a wee handbag session on the pitch in the 1980 Rantic Scottish Cup Final.

I think we have a pretty good stadium announcer compared to some of the other SPL clubs. I don't think the announcer or the music is the issue here, it's the fans that attend the games.

We don't necessarily need to have people screaming and shouting for 90 mins. The simple things like applauding the team seem too big an ask for many which I think is disgraceful if you actually care about Hibs.

    1. Yes

    2. Stop the non-singers looking at the ones trying to sing/cheer as though they had two heids and get them to actually join in and SUPPORT the team instead of just WATCHING them.

Spot on! If everyone just stood up and sung some songs knowone would be looking at you like a your a mental or sumin. Also think people in other parts of the stadium (the bits that dont sing so much) that want to sing should just not care what the others around them think and try get some atmosphere going.

Not sure it would create a better atmosphere, but if we filled in the corners between the ff/west and the new east/ff with some kinda frame and put up a big poster of sorts, i think it would enclose the stadium around the Hibs fans and maybe make it more atmospheric.

this is a germanic thing that has been done for a very long time all across Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In any sport (i've seen it at football, ice hockey, snowboarding etc) they always call out the first name and let the croud chant the surname. Usually the announcer says 'danke' after too and the croud says 'bitte' ('thanks' and 'you're welcome').

For us to start this off here would be a bit of a mission because its not in our culture. Would be good, but mostly people would think it was odd.

    In reply to the OP

    1) yes we need to improve the atmosphere

    2) new songs for individuals. When was the last time anyone came up with a song for our players? We had the Rob Jones one and there's a Zemmama chant and a Benji one... but thats it. (I don't think saying 'deek' over and over really counts as building the atmosphere). Fair enough singing there's only one 'ian murray' but more people join in to sing about Nade than any of our own team. Seems the dissilusionment has caused us to care more about other teams than our own, and as a result we only really get worked up into anything that can be called atmosphere when we're taking the piss out of hearts.

Just to throw my tuppenceworth in, I think the atmosphere could be much better and I don't think it's just down to alcohol or seats. I was at the Scotland v Canada game at ER around perhaps 2002 and I was stunned at the difference in atmosphere - the scotland crowd was much more positive and much less miserable.

I think it's an ER culture though - it will take a lot of sustained work to change there's no quick fixes.

agreed. I often wonder if more people go to vent the anger accumulated over the course of their sad lives than go to enjoy a game of football. ER can be a thoroughly depressing place at times, and its not all because the football is pish.

What if people stopped moaning like $#@! at the slightest thing, got behind the team treated going to the football as a privilege again.

I'd have lions rip chained prisoners limb from limb at half timewhile sitting in my throne in the new East, munching cooked chicken legs and occasionally giving the "entertainment" the thumbs up or down as my mood saw fit.
