    Re: History

I think there are all sorts of things conspiracy theory wise it would be nice to know the truth about, US Government knowing in advance about Pearl Harbour, JFK things like that.

Hearing Ernesto Guevara would be another good one for me I think.

I bet the answer would be..."we'll me and the lads were really bored so we though, lets move all these stones, and in hundreds of years people will look at them and be really confused and wonder why they are here."

    Re: History

Its not really the same if you know what's going to happen. One would be the severing of the land bridge between Britain and the continent, or similarly, the breeching of the Bospherous and the flooding of the Black Sea. Geological/geographical events.

There are some places I would love to see though like Imperial Rome, Babylon and Stonehenge in use.

Yeah, they are. I've never seen them live though.
I guess I'd like to follow Kurt Cobain about for the last few days of his life too to see what actually happened. I know that's kinda weird, but hey ho!

Nope Anno Domini is from Jesus's birth. There was is no year 0 in the calendar either, just 1BC then 1AD.

Nope Anno Domini is from Jesus's birth. There was is no year 0 in the calendar either, just 1BC then 1AD.
    I stand corrected

All these early people must have been excited back then, knowing that summat big was going to happen as the years counted down to 1BC!

What if Jesus had never arrived? Would they have had to have -1BC, then -2BC..... Wondering where the feck he'd got to....

Another question (for EGB who obviously knows all! ) ... did all folk have surnames in those days? I ken folk like Pontius Pilate obviously did, but was Jesus' dads name Joseph Christ?... in which case the folk would have known where the new saviour was coming from wouldn't they?

In most parts of the world people did not have 'proper' surnames, ie patonymic names handed down through more than one generation. Often people were identified by their first name plus either their father's name or a nickname or their occupation. Examples from Scotland - Ian MacGregor, Ian Cruikshanks, Ian Miller (respectively). These names eventually became fixed and handed down.

I think the word Christ comes from the Greek for 'the anointed one', so it was applied retrospectively.

Jesus certainly had a surname. His real name is Yeshua Ben Joseph, Ben Joseph means son of Joseph, named after his real dad no doubt.

There was also Jesus Bar Abbas, son of the father.

Christ is not a surname it's a title.

Jesus would have been Yeshua ben Yosef, or something like that. ie Jesus MacJoseph, Jesus O'Joseph, Isa bin Yusuf, Jesus Josefovic, Jesus Josephsson etc

Perhaps his real name was Jesus Carpenter.
