60 episodes of The Wire back-to-back

Have been off-Bounce for the last 3 months but havenae wasted my time. Just finished watching all 5 seasons - 60 episodes - of The Wire one after the other. That was the most mindblowing TV series I've ever seen. It lifted up the Stars & Stripes and looked at the mess beneath.

Now I'm totally gutted its all over. That was some experience. Seriously doubt if television drama will ever reach such heights again. Although I've heard that the same producers were working on a new series called Generation Kill and its begun airing in the States. Anyone seen any episodes?

Wasnt Homicide;Life on the streets also set in Baltimore?

sounds like another generic Sherman Tank cop show., like Police Cops or Badge Patrol.

Only watched the first season on on-demand virgin TV, been waiting for the next lot to be loaded but it's been quite a while now.

agree with what your saying though, the first season was excellent, lays down characters and plots for future seasons very well.I know there are few fans on here, Al & EGB in particular rate it higher than the sopranos iirc, which is praise indeed.

Regarding HBO, I reckon they are the best channel for the old dramas...Sopranos,Wire & West Wing to name but 3 all outstanding.

The Wire is anything but a generic cop show. Its brilliant, unlike any other TV series.

HBO are brilliant, they also did Band of Brothers, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Six Feet Under and the Larry Sanders Show. Some of the best TV made in recent times in there

Re: 60 episodes of The Wire back-to-back

funny I am in the middle of doing exactly the same watching between 1-3 episodes just about every night.

I knew this was meant to be good but since I missed a few episodes I saved it all to watch in a oner (going to do the same with Sopranos, which I stopped watching after middle of first season).

A bit like Battlestar it's funny to see/hear main characters played totally convincingly by English actors. I had no idea M****ty was played by an English actor (Dominic West, last seen in 300). Whatever, the Wire is the best.

Re: 60 episodes of The Wire back-to-back

I have stated before that I think The Sopranos was the greatest TV show. Ever. However even some Sopranos fans have said The Wire is better. I intend to get all series' and find out for myself! Can't wait!
